Sunday Brunch @ CAUSE
CAUSE is redefining "boozy brunch" with their booze-infused menu and bottomless drinks. It's even socially acceptable for adults to eat cereal again, which means, at the very least, Jason Segel will be pumped.

I wrote "Thirsty for Change" as a guest post on Social Citizens to promote Cause DC, a philanthropic pub I've been working for as a Brand Ambassador.
In preparation for DJ Big C's old school hip-hop debut at CAUSE tonight, take a browse through (drummer/DJ/Roots member/Fallon-backer/dude I want to be best friends with) Questlove's list of top 50 hip-hop songs.
If you aren't sure why you should take your cues from Questlove, this sweater offers all the explanation you could possibly need.
See you at CAUSE tonight to rock it to the bang bang a boogie. Meanwhile, listen to the song that started it all:
#TreatYoSelf upstairs at CAUSE on Thursday, February 14th. Why? Because "IT'S THE BEST DAY OF THE YEAR!" RSVP on Facebook.
(Also, it's this woman's birthday...)
Doing Good
As you already know, when you eat or drink at CAUSE, you have the option to designate on the bill which of our featured charities you'd like your LamBacon Burger or General Tso's Chicken Wings to support. We're super pumped about our inaugural class of charities, and here's how one of them is championing educational attainment...
Higher Achievement closes the opportunity gap during the pivotal middle school years by leveraging the power of communities. Over the past 35 years, Higher Achievement has worked with more than 10,000 youth in the DC Metro area. On average, 95 percent of Higher Achievement scholars advance to top academic high schools and 93 percent go on to college.
Meet two of those 10,000 Higher Achievement alumni who are working to realize their goals: High school senior Cheyenne Coote, bound for the University of Wisconsin-Madison to study journalism this fall; and Kelvin Sherman, a junior Television-Radio-Film major at Syracuse University.
Excerpts from Higher Achievement's spotlight on Cheyenne Coote:
With ambitions of becoming a journalist to the likes of Ann Curry and Brian Williams in the near future, Cheyenne is working hard to make her dreams become reality. Since her sophomore year, she has been the editor of the Arts & Entertainment column of her school’s newspaper. If it’s one thing that Cheyenne has learned from her time as a Higher Achievement scholar is that anything is possible. “Higher Achievement made me realize that if you want something, you can get it working hard,” she says. “Middle school is a critical time, and HAP taught us that it’s okay to be smart.”
Like many of her fellow Higher Achievement alumni, Cheyenne fondly remembers the opportunity to visit Frostburg University and the University of Maryland as a middle school student. She really appreciates the early exposure to the life of a college life four years ahead of her time to even begin the process. “In middle school, we were always taught to focus on the next step—high school. But Higher Achievement taught us to see beyond that,” she says.
“...Higher Achievement gives you opportunity to conquer any fears you may have.”
Excerpts from Higher Achievement's spotlight on Kelvin Sherman:
Now a junior Television-Radio-Film (TRF) major at Syracuse University, Kelvin credits his time at Higher Achievement to his current college career success. “HAP helped me realize that being smart and learning are cool. As a student, I was never the one who was excited about answering the teachers question or speaking in front of the class.” Kevin says that participating in things like Community Meeting and Gathering Time gave him confidence to share what he learned with his peers and really immerse himself in the Higher Achievement culture.
But his fondest memories lie in the experiences that he was afforded during Summer Academy. “My absolute favorite part of the program was getting to go on the college tour,” Kelvin states. “HAP took me to see my first college ever, and living the life of a college student as a middle school student couldn't get any cooler than that!”
Turtle Recall will be gracing CAUSE's stage: Tonight. 10pm. Doooo it.
