FISH V. FAMILIES
Seventy percent of the world’s surface is covered by water. But wait. If that’s the case, how could California possibly have a water crisis?
What most people don’t realize is that less than 1% of our planet’s water is available for human use. The rest is either salt water or frozen solid in ice caps or glaciers — and thus, unusable.
So as California enters its fifth year of drought — a drought, scientists now say may never end — we need to pay very close attention to how our government is allocating the very small amount of water available to support our families and civilization.
And giving nearly 50% of the state’s limited water resources to endangered fish and wild rivers — due to the Endangered Species Act and other environmental lawsuits run amok — is NOT the best use. Families and food must come first.
