Liriel had been hovering outside the pathology lab for a solid two minutes, debating whether barging in unannounced would get her smacked with a microscope slide. In the end, impulse won—as it always did. She pushed the door open with her hip, balancing two coffees in one hand and a paper bag in the other. “Guess who brought you caffeine and a breakfast sandwich before you could forget people need actual food to survive?” she announced, plopping the bag dramatically onto Caylis’s desk. Her nose wrinkled as she caught sight of something under the lab light. “Also, ew. Please tell me that’s not somebody’s spleen.” She leaned against the counter, offering her sister a lopsided grin. “Seriously, Cay, how did you ever get used to this stuff? Are you just too weird to be grossed out?” A beat, softer now. “Anyway. Eat. And maybe tell me how you’re doing before you get lost in another autopsy report.” @howmcnythings
