oooh mlp redesigns...
i love love LOVE how you gave them all fluff in some capacity especially fluttershy. would you mind giving a rundown of your process designing them?
Thank you so so much! I love giving some fluff to all of my pony drawings, I have to actively stop myself from doing that too much sometimes hah
My process is a little messy, and different every time! But it comes down to something like this:
First I make some loose sketches. I look at the original design, and many many fanarts of them, to see what I like about each one. Then I think what I want this character's "vibe" to be. For Fluttershy I knew it had to be - soft, calm, a little sad. And I try to convey that in the shapes! Heavy mane, flowers, and ofc fluff.
Then I draw the first digital sketch and see if it works out. In the first one I knew I liked the eye and the flowers, but the hair was weird, not wavy enough. I mess with the design, and I try to keep it consistent. The shapes have to be similar (like the fluff on her legs, with the wings shape and flowers)
I add some details if I think the design is not "sparkly" enough - like here, with the spirals and little stars :>
And it's always a bit of a "trust the process" situation, the design is not always great from the start! Example:
The original design, as helpfully noted by my friend @dividedsingularity, was a little too chunky for a changeling queen, so I decided to draw it once more, and ditch the crown for the sake of more consistent design, with the spikes!
Another example:
My OC, Clover Tea, originally designed a long time ago. I didn't like her cold colours, so I made her warmer, fluffier, happier, cuter and also gave her a sweater - I didn't want to make her design TOO sparkly, but she just needed that special something.
Thank you for your question! <3
