“It’s just a meeting with Dana about some science experiments I want to run in the Scrublands. I think I look--” Carlos broke off, a blush rising in his cheeks when Cecil’s hands came up to adjust the tie he’d hastily put on. He stumbled with his words, before waving Cecil’s hands away. “I... I mean... Well, I suppose it’s best to look presentable to our mayor, huh?” He gave a weak smile, cheeks still dark, and pecked Cecil on the cheek.

Carlos gaped at his boyfriend for a good thirty seconds before he finally seemed to find his voice. “There is so much wrong in that sentence I don’t even know where to begin. What does Night Vale do to music?”
Oh, now that was an experiment to run. Carlos was sure he had some CDs in the van that he and the assistants had driven to the town years ago. Carlos filed that away mentally.
“My instinct is to be mean to you.”

“Why am I not surprised, Cecil?” Kevin huffed out, a tad bitter at the fact. They could be friends and Cecil was just... So rude about it! So incredibly rude! Kevin crossed his arms over his chest, leaning back to study the other radio host. “Thankfully, my instinct is to be polite to you. Someone has to be, after all.”
“I typed up your symptoms on this thing here and it says you may have network connectivity problems.”

“I’m not non-organic, Ceec!” Carlos grumbled from his spot on the sofa, blanket pulled up to his chin and a pout tugging at his lips. “It’s a cold, I’m sure of it. I can go to work. I can!” His stomach doing somersaults said differently, however. “I don’t know of any organic being that is able to have network connectivity problems.”
“One time I accidentally drank an entire bottle of vinegar. I thought it was terrible wine.”
“That... Does definitely sound like you, yeah.”

“Why do you have to be so dramatic, Cecil? Really, it’s unnecessary. Besides, do you really want to offer us ways to make things worse for you? StrexCorp’s willing to try any method to get you to join us.” Kevin eyed Cecil’s prone form with a grim smile. It was... Interesting, having Cecil in a cell similar to one Kevin himself had been kept in ages upon ages ago. It was just karma at work, he supposed. Or the Will of the Smiling God. “I mean, we can try fire, but we really don’t want to kill you.”

Carlos balled his hand into a fist, gritting his teeth as Cecil berated him over the phone. “I am trying, Cecil. Very hard. I call you as often as I can.” Cecil was just being very difficult with all of this, that was all. Didn’t he realize how important this Otherworld could be? It was scientifically fascinating. Things just were so... Carlos didn’t have words for it.
