Just witnessed something very powerful in the Cedar-Riverside/Little Earth area of Minneapolis.
Driving home from work, I get off 94 at Cedar Ave. When I turn onto Cedar, I find myself in the middle of a car parade/protest in solidarity with Palestinians.
A passenger leans out of each car holding a flag or a sign. The flags I recognized were for Palestine and Somalia. Cedar-Riverside has a large Somali population and some Somali young people seemed to me leading this event.
It's rush hour, so traffic is crawling pretty slow on a major street that's always congested anyway. When we go through Little Earth (a Native American community), everyone in the park next to the road has stopped and is watching. And many of them, kids included, are raising their fists in solidarity. We're moving in slow motion and I started tearing up.
Cars coming the other way honk and flash peace signs or solidarity fists too. There's a lot of honking. The young woman in the car behind me has a sign that says "save" something on it but I can't make out the rest while trying to drive.
I just feel really lucky to have gotten to witness that moment in person.
And if you know of a particular org that was behind this protest, please let me know so I can kick a small donation their way.
RIP, Triple Rock Social Club, you had a good run. 🤘 I'll never forget your garbage acoustics, filthy beer glasses, beer soaked floor, and that time Carla almost won a skanking contest at the Battle of the Bands. TCHC.
Second to last night at Palmer's Bar in Minneapolis. The bar will close for good tomorrow... i've heard it'll all end with a lock-in until theres nothing left to drink.
