-pointless Cedricposting no one asked for-
I started listening to The Mars Volta in 2005 when I was in 7th grade. First song I'd ever heard was Cut that City, which prompted me to immediately become obsessed with them, mainly because of Cedric's unbelievable, surreal, gorgeous voice. I just couldn't believe it
anyway before I ever looked up any personal info about the band members, I had this idea that their singer's name was Stanley and looked like a mix between Jon Heder and Owen Wilson:
More like Jon Heder though. And I was just SO SURE his name was gonna be Stanley
I finally looked em up on Yahoo Music and these two were the very first photos I saw of them:
And I thought ??? they're beautiful and what the hell their singer is gorgeous!
and I thought "wh- Cedric Bixler-Zavala is probably the coolest fucking name I've ever heard in my life, of COURSE that's his name, and dude of COURSE he's Latin"
my 7th & 8th grade self was fucking obsessed with this man, like, saving 2000 photos of Cedric to my iPod video and just scrolling through them all multiple times a day. of course saving them off the "Best / Worst Picture of The Mars Volta ??" thread on The Comatorium
at the time (I was very young, obviously, and didn't quite understand the world & people) I was CERTAIN that Volta wasn't just composed of some incredibly talented & creative people-- instead I thought that C & O were "receivers" that heard messages straight from The Source and transformed it into music. Like, their music & lyrics felt so certain, so sure, full confidence in the stories told, like they were receiving religious messages & just transcribing them into music
just a few weeks ago I read an old interview from them &, they said that they, too, felt like they were "receiving" the music from somewhere and just playing & recording it. it was amazing, full circle
