I was going to take a few more less rushed photos this afternoon (& get gold lustre on a few of my guys so they can go for their last firing asap!), but I threw my back out really badly shovelling snow & instead am now flat on the couch cursing the winter :(

On the bright side, I'm pretty happy with this whole batch & these are some sneaky peeks!! The bowls are a particular thrill, as I decided to experimentally toss coloured-yet-transparent celadon glazes over underglaze designs and OK WOW I LOVE THEM?? Especially the seal bowl - it looks antique/like it was maybe brought up from a shipwreck??

I can't wait to show these guys off more / will start prepping a shop update soon, so stay tuned!

Fukami Sueharu injects liquid clay at high pressure into a plaster mold to produce bold and dynamic forms such as this one, with its curved surface and precise lines. He pairs this modern technique and form with a historic celadon glaze. Celadon glazes have long been admired for their translucent, subtle gray-green and blue-green colors that arise from iron oxide in either the clay or the glaze. I was all excited to take pictures of my latest batch today, only to have it be seriously ice-storming all day (and thunderstorming?? Very interesting combo), so it was incredibly dark & grey all day. NEVERTHELESS I decided to hold a selection of my little dishes very close to the window for mediocre photos, as seen above!

I'm really happy with how almost all of the dishes turned out & am especially in love with the diving loon, whose glaze has some gorgeous, Great Lakes water-y subtleties (I used three different celadons & did some experimental layering & am now super excited to try more of that in my next batch!!).

It'll still be a while before any of these are up in my shop (I still need to get gold lustre done on a bunch of them & also am busy with other work for the next little bit), but stay tuned for some more peeks at the creatures!

Also, proof of ice storm. Love to have everything encased in ice on APRIL 5th (I know, I live in a north-y place, I should be used to it...AND YET) >:(

Warming bowl with celadon glaze, Ru ware, Ceramic (Northern Song dynasty, China, AD960 - 1127).

The Ru ware was produced for the imperial court for only about 20 years, making it one of the rarest ceramics in the world. It is prized for its signature celadon glaze, famously described as jade-like and the "blue of the sky after rain." This lotus-shaped piece served as a warming wine vessel. Similar pieces were excavated from the kiln site in Qingliang Temple, Henan Province. Location. National Palace Museum, Taipei. Dim. 10.4 cm H x 16.2 cm D.
