24 - My muse will tell you a bold faced lie
“You’re not special. There is nothing special about you, Seungyeonie.”
The big fat lie was lying on the table. They only had a round table separating them, but Jackson clearly didn’t know the definition of personal space, because even with a table between them, the demon had found a way to invade her personal space like he had always done. For someone who was trying to convince her that he didn’t care any longer, he was probably doing a terrible job. His dark eyes were drowning into hers, showing the seriousness that he was trying to display in them. The expression on his features was harsh and there was no emotion in his actions as the demon had the audacity to smirk.
Truth to be told, Jackson was too drunk to be coherent about what he was saying, but the intention was there. He wanted her out of his life. This had been the first time they met after their encounter at his apartment. The demon had tried to kick her out of his life once and he was trying to do it again, with a different tactical this time. She had omitted to him something he had the right to know. Seungyeon knew he had been looking for his brother like a maniac and she dared to hide that she knew about Tyler’s death.
For what? Because the cambion believed his brother was alive? Because she didn’t want him to suffer for a lie?
Jackson didn’t care. Seungyeon betrayed him. Nothing was going to change his mind about it.
However, the woman in front of him probably knew him better than anyone. Despite the harshness in his words and the coldness of his eyes, Seungyeon knew Jackson was lying to her. She didn’t even need to voice out the words for him to know what she was thinking. The demon could see it through her eyes. That was how deep their bond was at this point in their journey together. How this had happened was a mystery to him. Until now, he had no idea how they got so close from one another. A few weeks ago, he would have said that he was actually thankful for that in some ways, but that wasn’t the case anymore.
Even knowing that Seungyeon hadn’t believed in him, the dancer didn’t move an inch away from her. The closeness between them remained as Jackson was leaned forward on the table with his elbows on the center of the surface. Their faces were so close that the demon could feel her soft breathing against his lips. This had been tempting, but they were calling for him. Unknowingly, his dark eyes lowered to her red lips, staring at them for a brief second. They were so familiar. So many times, they had been pressed against his in their passionate moments, where there was only a tiny bed sheet between them or his hands were holding her face closer to his, always wanting more. Their lives were tangled in a deep bond, but this wasn’t love or anything similar. It was mostly understanding. Two puzzle pieces that matched perfectly.
Raising his eyes to meet hers once again, the corners of his lips curved into a smirk. The harshness in his eyes faded slightly for a moment as he showed the sadness behind them. Once again, the words were out of his mouth before he could even stop himself. “You are as vulgar as the others.” There was an obvious pain in his tone, because Jackson could also recognize the lie in his words. Who was he trying to convince? Seungyeon or himself?
The young man knew it wouldn’t take her long to actually argue about this and to claim that Jackson was a liar. This conversation wasn’t going to end well and he was done at fighting with her at this point. The only reason why he had left his apartment was because of Mark. Otherwise, he would have stayed in his room, drinking until passing out from the pain he was feeling. Losing his brother had been too much for him, but this was a sadness he didn’t want to share with Seungyeon.
Never again.
