JALAN RAYA CELUK (CELUK ROAD)
Jalan Raya Celuk (Celuk Road) is located in Celuk Village, Gianyar Region, Bali. It is famous as the main gold and silversmiths of the island. There are many galleries and workshops open along the main road. The village is usually an included stopover on tour itineraries to the central and northern regions such as Ubud and Kintamani. The silver and gold shops line the roads approximately 10km northeast from Denpasar. The village of Celuk is also a link between Bali’s Batubulan-Mas-Sukawati-Ubud ‘golden pentacle’ of artisans and craftsmen.
The road and the village had been famous since 1976, where only three craftsmen began their workshops. Slowly but sure, as Bali tourism gets its reputation, Celuk is emerging into the central of gold and silversmith.
Being a crafter and gold/silversmith is a natural profession within the locals. Almost all the households in the village are jewellers and possessed artistic skills in developing and executing variety of (complex) patterns. The gold and silver crafts produced in the village are also well-known for its quality. In the gallery, the crafters usually display their arts 360 degrees where you can see the details from every angle.
The products of Celuk is full of variation, and it is not only selling jewelleries, but also art displays, silver cutleries, clocks, brooches, and many others with précised composition and detail. Sometimes if possible, the traveller could also visit the workshop that located nearby or side by side with the galleries. You will be able to witness the process of silver and gold products up and close.
The prices of the handcrafts are displayed in IDR and sometimes in USD. The more complicated the design and pattern is, the more expensive they are. However, bargaining to reach the optimum price is still attainable in the area.
