At the Bronx Child and Adolescent Witness Support Program, children who have been exposed to violent crime receive intensive support and services from specially-trained clinicians. The program often uses art to help participants cope with traumatic experiences. An eight-year-old girl whose mother was murdered created this drawing.

The Center for Court Innovation’s youth courts in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Newark, and Staten Island train teenagers to handle real-life cases involving their peers, offering an alternative to the formal justice system. Youth court members receive rigorous training and wear special shirts to demonstrate their seriousness.
