This is in Glacier National Park. In composing this image, I took advantage of some higher ground I was located on and angled my Nikon SLR, camera slightly downward to create more of a sweeping view across this mountain valley. That would in turn bring the horizon a little higher into the image. I felt that would help create more of a sense of grandeur with the mountain peaks all around.

In composing this image, I zoomed in with the focal length so that I could have the mountainside fill most of the image from edge to edge, while still including some foreground interest and blue skies as a backdrop.

Thank You, Nature, for Installing Mountains! (Glacier National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: At a pullout overlook along the Going-to-the-Sun Road with a view looking to the southwest in Glacier National Park. My thought on composing this image was to take advantage of what I perceived as layers present and use that to capture look beyond. Nearby was a forest of evergreens and other small trees, with the waters of Saint Mary Lake beyond that. As a backdrop, there were distant mountains with the ridges and peaks of the Central Lewis Range with Mahtotopa Mountain, Dusty Star Mountain, Fusillade Mountain, Gunsight Mountain, and Dragons Tail. I decided to keep a more leveled-on view with the horizon and let the blue skies above the a contrast to complement the earth-tones present in the lower portion of the image.
