I was meant to be releasing the website for #PortraitOfBlackBritain today but instead I want to shed light on a young Black man that got arrested not to long ago in Trafalgar Square for filming a white woman swearing and getting angry at the police. Witness said an officer got physical with the boy even though other members of the public were also filming the situation also, the boy then got upset and swore while filming the police manhandling him, the police put him in hand cuffs, let the white lady go and took the Black boy to jail. The white lady was in the police officers face, swearing and claiming her alcohol bottle was a weapon. Watch the video for my full thoughts - https://lnkd.in/ea5gDzxz They keep locking up our brothers and it needs to stop, this situation could have been deescalated in other ways but very often ‘some’ officers bring their ego and attitude to work and don’t know how to have a human to human conversation with Black people. If the Black boy resisted arrest or didn’t want to be cuffed, that situation could have ended with him on the floor or worse. It’s a shame that 1 year on from the murder of George Floyd we’re still dealing with police officers that are not educated enough to use conflict resolution methods toward Black people. Again, the white lady who was the person they were called to arrest, left with no hand cuffs used on her and did not go to jail. They went on to search the boy for weapons and took him to the police station.
