Who here remembers Dagedar?
They were a series of racing ball collector's toys back in 2010-2011. Each character consisted of different creatures with lore and different powers, each ball had a code on their back (ex: 01002, 02025, 04080, 06112 etc.) that if you went on the website, you could input them and see extra lore on the characters. Sadly as of today, the website has had it's domain bought from a New Jersey transport company. And to make matters worse, even though the website is archived on Archive.org, the "DSP" flash activity doesn't work anymore.
But switching back to positives, You got a robot searching for enlightment, a giant blue mutant baby that made me mistake him for Plankton the first time I saw it, a black cyclops who steals teeth for his own pleasure, A sumo wrestler cursed by Yin & Yang, A skull child with an axe stuck in his cranium. God! I could go on for so much more with these characters!
I had at least 10 of these balls in my childhood, and even discovered every spirit within and loved every second of it. Then when the love for it died, Cartoon Network (and eventually Nickelodeon…unfortunately) very much took over.
The ones I circled here are the balls I remember owning. If I find them somewhere in the attic, I'll be sure to take pics of them.
Needless to say, looking back, I had a pretty mid collection of them. Now I just wish I took "Some balls are rare!" into consideration haha.
These days because of it's obscurity, most images of the racer's normal forms are out there, so there’s fanart opportunities to be had for sure. However a few of the racers’ normal forms aren't even on the internet, one of them includes
N-Fury-8 (04080)
Represented by an 8 ball symbolized… jellyfish? fireball? eh, I didn't know back then and to be honest I still can’t tell today.. but he was a robot boy who became an expert at robotics and made his own little army of bots and formerly went under Nate 4e 800.
You can find most DaGeDar characters on Deviantart, galleries from their respective artists (Ryan Lee, Bill Brosnon, Scot Terry), old Facebook posts, and cards and balls on Ebay listings. But characters like N-Fury-8 are known by their spirit ball and don't have any traces of their true form artwork anywhere online.
But I'm getting ahead of myself.
Do be sure to share this around if you remember this series!
…
And if anybody asks why I was focused on N-Fury-8, I was just looking to draw him. And maybe in the Kids Next Door style. So sorry for hyperfixating on him for a bit. I would draw him from memory, but I didn't wanna. lol.
