Season Review: Almost Paradise S1

This show is a cross between Leverage and Hawai 5-0 (with a little character from Librarians).  

The best part was when Alex was snarky and acting all crazy, mainly because it's so unlike Eliot and most other roles Christian Kane plays.   It was close to Jake Stone from the Librarians, but with more kickass from Eliot (Leverage).  It was a fun combination.

I really enjoyed both Kai and Ernesto very much.  Kai was very capable, even with her frustration with the Captain not assigning her more important cases.  It was nice to see that change, even if it was heavyhanded.  And I really warmed up to Ernesto, in the beginning he seemed kind of stiff but quickly warmed up and his banter with Alex was so fun.

The three of them have great chemistry together and really mesh well.  The show shines brighter when they were together.  The supporting cast is enjoyable, specially the resort owner and young girl (Cory and Rita).

It was nice continuity around the gift shop as each episode provided signs that things were improving and moving forward. I liked that it wasn't "snap it was done" but that he was working on it.  The fight scenes were well choreographed and executed.

It was really predictable though.  So much so I mentioned what was going to happen in the final episode around episode 3.  There wasn't anything new in terms of plot of storylines as it's all been done on either Leverage or  Hawaii 5-0 and I watched both.  Or any other crime procedural.  And sometimes the execution was so ridiculous that it did reduce my enjoyment a little.  Additionally about halfway through the makeup on Alex was not good, his face constantly looked slightly orange.

I watched this with friends though and it was fun and it was nice to see Christian Kane do more than just hit things/people - wish he had more roles that were more dramatic or comedic instead of relying on his fighting/stunt talent.
