It was getting late and Oropher knew he should be heading back home. His ada wouldn’t be pleased if he wasn’t in by nightfall. But it was still a struggle to pull himself away from the clump of interesting mushrooms he’d found. He’d have to remember where this little nook was.
He stood, gathering his journal and placing it in his bag, smiling to himself. It had been a day well spent, in his opinion, and he’d recorded a number of different things. But the young elf’s smile faded at the sound of crunching leaves and he paused, squinting into the growing gloom.
“Hello?” He called out. It was probably one of the king’s guards on patrol.

"Ah, I thought you’d have heard…" Cethin laughed awkwardly and leaned on her white cane. "Well, let’s say I messed up big time on a job and… uh, I guess you could say the torturing they put me through didn’t leave me completely… untouched. Apparently the dude had an eye fetish.” she managed a laugh while taking off her sunglasses that had hidden now grey and clody coloured eyes.
"So, that is why I… retired." she said shrugging. Cethin was no where near getting used to the blackness that was now all that she saw. All that she was always going to see.
She was trying to look at her former partner, but as she was blind she couldn’t tell where her eyes were looking. Probably anywhere but Cypress. “Everyone else got of without any bigger damage than a broken rib or so. One could say I took the biggest blow.”
She coughed uncomfortably. “But anyway, how are you doing?” she asked instead of keeping the same topic she dreaded.
There was little she could say in the situation. She had not known, nor had SHIELD told her. One day Cethin had just disappear and no matter how much she had asked or cajoled no one had uttered a single answer. There was little she could do in the situation, but hope; she had not the skill to hack into SHIELD's locked files nor anyone who could help her do so.
"Cethin," she tried, but was unsure how to continue. 'I'm sorry', seemed stupid and trifle. 'I understand,' just so... she had no way in which she could understand what her former partner was going through. Death and torture she could understand, she had lived through them during two lives. But this? It made her think back to long forgotten memories and kin who had suffered a same fate.
"I hope they got the bastard good," she finally settled upon, the one thing they cold both truly understand. Rage and anger and revenge... Then the question came and Cypress flinched, for a moment selfishly glad that Cethin could not see the burns on her hands and their involuntary tremble. Hot shame flooded her not a second later and she adverted her gaze, though pointlessly so.
"I... I'm fine," she uttered and bit back the words threatening to spill from her lips, the truth drowned in a cacophony of anger and hopelessness - 'they set me up, sweet Eru how could they, they left me for the dead after all this time, I never had their trust, after everything...I don't need them, I'll save myself as usual, I'll leave and never come back, they'll never find me'- "I left..." A lie, wrapped in a half truth, but as good as any answer she could have given.
The envelope in front of her was clear and to the point. The main targets were highlighted, as were the secondary objectives. There was no need to read them again; she had already memorized it and prepared accordingly. "Are you ready?" Cypress asked over her shoulder just as she strapped the last gun in its holster.
