Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers (or not. you can do whatever). Let’s spread the self-love 💖
I don't think I've ever done any self recs before, so this is fun! Prefacing this with the fact that this answer is constantly changing and evolving, here are five of my fics which I’m particularly fond of right now:
cannot fix on the hour (which laid the foundation) Ted Lasso | Roy/Jamie | 34,865 words Jamie POV of all three seasons of Ted Lasso, diverging after International Break This is the first fic I ever completed while posting, and the experience has definitely created a bias, but I do love it! It was the first time I'd spent any time at length writing out scenes from canon with insight that can't be portrayed on screen, and as someone with an interest in form and adaptation, that was a revolutionary discovery for my fic writing.
thumbs Ted Lasso | Roy/Jamie | 48,525 words After the Ted Lasso finale, Jamie spends the off-season trying to reconcile with his father, and learns that he can build his own family. This is probably not a surprise to anyone who follows me on tumblr (or ao3 tbh since I can’t stop adding to this universe) but thumbs is very near and dear to me. It was an amazing act of catharsis and the community around the fic has been endlessly delightful to me.
my sun, my moon, and all my stars Star Trek AOS | Kirk/Spock/McCoy | 11,887 words Bones has hanahaki disease, and they all pine about it I've never been so immediately taken by an idea and so immediately able to execute it the way I was with this fic. I wrote it all so quickly I didn't have time to doubt it, and in the time since writing it, I've come to enjoy the melodrama of it all. It was also at the time the shortest fic I'd ever completed, and being able to pamphlet bind it was especially fun.
his hand in mine (triptych) The West Wing | Sam/Josh | 3580 words Three scenarios in which one of the White House staff happens upon Sam holding Josh's hand in the wake of the season two premiere This is perhaps the most surprising addition to this list (especially as I do still think of this fic largely as three different scenes from three different wips that exist mostly only in my mind) but I just love this episode so much, I love these characters so much, and I love imagining different ways this scene could have gone. The West Wing has been an excellent world to do these kinds of writing exercises with because there are so many versions of reality I'm able to hold in my mind for them.
these acquired idioms Heated Rivalry | Shane/Ilya | 5,399 words (incomplete) Cliff Marleau teaches Ilya French and in the process figures out who Ilya's Montreal Jane is. I thought it would be fun to include a wip! This may not be a permanent installment on my list (none of them are, really), but I’m writing it right now and having truly so much fun with it. I’ve really come to love outsider povs, expanding the lives of minor characters, and learning to be as self-indulgent as I want to be with my writing. This fic brings all those things together and it has been a genuine delight.
