it was another one of his genius plans that he hadn't told anyone about. it was another one of the plans that he knew he couldn't tell anyone about because he knew what they would all say. that this was too much, over the top, ridiculous. it was all the things that she was muttering to herself as she set the letter aside. having read it a million times since spook had arrived. with the other half the empire, which they had all thought might have separated itself. but it was so calmly shifted under him. and here she was the survivors heir, and yet she felt terribly like his pawn. there was so much anger at the thought, a painful one that she didn't want to feel. damn kelsier for leaving them, damn it all. was this meant to be a joke or a solution? she didn't even know. but could she really refuse? spin his plan out of control and leave them, the crew, the rest of the skaa, and even spook in a place of uncertainty all because the thought of getting married -
she shivers. not sure what to do then. after his arrival they had all eaten. the topic only touched on once or twice. the crew having sensed the awkwardness of the whole thing perhaps. she had even spoken with him. but not about it, simply to know what he had been doing after he had simply disappeared. and now - now this. she almost reaches for the letter again but doesn't. she sits a little straighter, her lips pursed together as the door opened. and she remembers she had asked him to come here once he was settled in. she regrets it instantly. an invite to her room -- a blush comes to her face and she looks away from him. him, hardly a child anymore. she had thought he had been one. maybe her memory was obscured. she feels foolish suddenly. and heavy, oh , so heavy. she wants nothing more than to slip out of the window and jump across the roof tops and not have to deal with all of this.
but she was the survivor's heir. and there were expectations that came with that.
