To say that Cole was nervous would be an astronomical understatement. He was borderline petrified by the thought of meeting his new tutor. She was one of many new people in Cole’s life; he had a new case worker, new neighbours and he’d been trying his very best to get a job anywhere that would have him. It was somewhat overwhelming but he was hopeful, the whole experience was one that he considered positive, a crucial element of his growth on the outside. Still, it didn’t stop his stomach from twisting into knots as he sat alone in a booth at a local cafe, waiting for Poppy to arrive. She wasn’t late, not by any stretch of the imagination, Cole had simply been there fifteen minutes early, so as not to make a bad impression on his tutor. He sighed as he folded his napkin into an origami crane and wondered if Poppy had been told- or worse, warned- about him. How much did she know about his story? Did she care? He supposed if she did, she wouldn’t take the job. Maybe? He wasn’t convincing himself of much. He didn’t have the slightest clue on what to expect from the mysterious Poppy but supposed she had been given a photo of her new student, hopefully, she would recognise him sitting quietly in his seat, the ice in his empty glass melting in front of him.
