Aimless Knight by King's Kaleidoscope
It's been a minute since I last made one of these breakdowns. Let's see if I remember how (lol I've only made 3 anyways).
Right then left, diggin' a sweat Head down, dead ground, shovel, step Milk and honey, milk and honey
I don't kneel, I won't yield Low light, no sight, tunnel Zeal Silk and money, silk and money
The...Protagonist let's say, is toiling for the promised land. "tunnel Zeal" single minded determination. However, this determination and perseverance that he prides himself in has overshadowed the promise of the covenant. He now works towards worldly treasures, "silk and money"
So, where does the garden blossom deep within my soul? All I know is striving for this harvest of fool's gold
"So where does the garden blossom deep within my soul" This portion of the pre-chorus is sung in a breathy falsetto, as if its something outside of himself or his subconscious whispering this question. Forcing him to reflect about what/who he's really working for.
Oh! Aimless knight Oh! Faithless fight
He's trained his whole for battle, but battle what? Fight who? His life has been suffering and determination, but it's worthless (vapor) if there is no one to fight for. The title of knight is worthless without a King.
Demon diamond, where you hidin'? Keep me on a mission like a singin' siren Rippin' up roots, diggin' up truths Hacking up the vine, stacking up dead fruit Get it, better pick up the pace Today, don't waste away Get it, better pick up the pace Today, don't waste away
"Demon diamond", "singin siren." Worldly desires and treasures are like the songs of sirens. Beautiful and alluring, but ultimately leading to death. We hear from everywhere to go, go, go and not to waste a single day. Every second is a time where you can be working. And although it's true that we shouldn't waste a single day, the worldly interpretation of this doesn't produce the fruit of the spirit.
So where does the garden blossom deep within my soul? All I know is striving for this harvest of fool's gold
Oh! Aimless knight Oh! Faithless fight Oh! Aimless knight Oh! Faithless fight
The second time the pre-chorus is sung, he sings louder and with more vigor. Now he has brought this thought, this feeling, to the forefront of his mind. He realizes he has been striving towards a meaningless life.
I didn't see you, I didn't care Looking for lightning under the stairs Hunting for feeling, firing aflare Chasing the purpose out of despair You were the one truth I wouldn't dare Give me your blessing Teach me your prayer For beauty in stillness Rest in the snare Settle my spirit Spirit, abide in me Spirit, abide in me Spirit, abide in me
This part is in strong juxtaposition to the fast paced offbeat rhythm of the rest of the song. Here, he's come to realize the stillness and the peace of the presence of God, and ask for Christ to abide in his soul and teach him how to rest in the truth and blessing that only God can give.
