feline friendships

Haneul stares up at the sky. The air at school is different from the air at ground level, he doesn’t really know how to describe it. There were obviously modifications made to the area surrounding the school, to make the air more breathable, but it felt different. Haneul felt more at home up in the sky, and he supposed just being up there was a good enough substitute for actually flying.
He lay on his back, hands folded behind his head, as he gazed at the clouds, so much closer than they would be from the ground. His mind starts to drift, not quite settling on any one thought. It’s peaceful up here, and surprisingly, not a lot of people are around outside. Haneul didn’t mind, he liked the silence anyways.
He’s just about to doze off, when the silence is broken by a quiet mewl. Haneul’s eyebrows furrow as he sits up, looking around for the source of the noise. His eyes dart around before locating a... cat? Plodding along, it’s tail in the air as it approaches him.
He holds himself still as the cat’s nose moves and it sniffs him. Haneul wonders idly, what he would smell like, whether animals think that he smells weird for a human. He probably does, what with the wings and all. But regardless of whether he smells off, the feline doesn’t seem to mind, allowing Haneul to reach out and scratch it behind the ears.
Haneul had always loved animals, especially smaller ones with soft fur. He loved the sensation of petting soft fur, and couldn’t resist running his palm and fingers over the cat’s back. “Do you have a home?” he murmured to the feline, as though it would suddenly start talking back to him. Of course, it didn’t, so Haneul just occupied himself with petting the content cat, who eventually ended up sprawled in his lap.
