He stared at the red pooling on the floor, shards of glass and splintered wood scattered on the floor.
Books are written, stories are told, grisly breaking news reports on the telly, but none of those do justice to how horrifying it looks in person. He swallowed, his throat dry, hair at the the back of his neck prickling as the shades of rust and dark blood seeped into the carpet.
Murder has a tendency to get uglier when you're the one responsible, he realised.
His next thought was that he would have a hard time getting the slowly congealing liquid out of the carpet.
Sinking to his knees, he found himself unable to touch the broken remnants of what was once his girlfriend's beloved easel and favourite bottle of expensive paint - before his hand had swept both off the breakfast bar.
Joanne was going to be Hulk angry.
