It's not the prettiest, and I desperately need to redo this whole damn tank with fresh soil & plants (next project), but Chalybeia has a new lay box! The hole is in the lid; it was made with a soldering iron so the rim is nice and smooth.
She's very definitely got egg follicles. Fingers crossed for her clutch to hatch out this year. They'll be all pewter het amel 50% ph anery lavender.
No telling what size clutch she'll lay. She's done as few as 4 and as many as 31, so who knows.
Guess who's gravid! Chalybeia (pewter) is going to have her pre-lay shed any day now. This clutch is by Zmei (whiteout het lavender anery A), so the babies will be all pewter het amel ph lavender anery A.
[Image description: revealed beneath a peeled-back layer of sphagnum moss and ivy, a calm, grey corn snake lies coiled in the dirt. Her eyes are cloudy blue, signalling that she's going to shed her skin soon, and her body appears heavily bloated because it's chock-full of eggs.]
y u boop me
Speaking of corn snakes, here's Chalybeia, whom I hope will have her second clutch this year! She's an '09 pewter from bloodred lines, and she's always been a gentle sweetheart. The flash picks up a lot more brown on her than is normally visible.
Chalybiea came out to say hi.
Oh shit I think my female corn snake is doing the nest thing. Guess I better get the incubator ready, plus moss, cups, and substrate...!

Y’all prolly don’t care but my Chaly is the sweetest snake. Apophis spent the entirety of the time I had him looped around my shoulders for tank-cleaning day passive-aggressively trying to get away, but Chalybeia came to hand and just kinda stayed looped up on my hand & wrist until she wanted to go back. I haven’t given her a proper handling in ages and she still sought my hand to be held. What a doll.
