Chance (2016) - Eldon Chance/Jaclyn Blackstone
“Sorry I didn’t make an appointment.”
Dr. Chance looked up from the stack of files he’d been organizing and his breath caught in his throat. He blinked rapidly, fighting down a momentary thought that he might be hallucinating. The vision did not waver as she stepped closer, one corner of her mouth tilting upward.
He cleared his throat. “I thought you were gone for good.”
She tilted her head, a sad smile flitting over her features. “I am.”
Chance stood up from his chair. “Are you… am I talking to Jackie or Jaclyn?”
Rounding the edge of his desk, she looked up from under her lashes at him. “Does it matter?”
“It might,” he hedged.
She offered a sly smile, stepping into his space with purpose. “But do you care?”
Most likely Jackie, then. Jacyln was rarely so brazen with him. He wasn’t sure how he felt about that just yet - though certain parts of his anatomy were already beginning to express a favorable opinion.
Chance’s tongue darted out to wet suddenly dry lips. “This. This is a terrible idea. There’s that detective still watching me. He might have seen you come in.”
Jackie (or Jacyln?)’s eyes went wide in a mockery of innocence. She slid a finger between the buttons on the middle of his shirt. “Case is closed, Eldon.”
“So is my office, in case you hadn’t noticed.” He tilted his head toward the door, where a sign announcing the closure of his practice was posted on the outside. In his head, he was telling her to leave. He needed her to leave. Because he knew he still wasn’t strong enough to step away.

Synopsis: A young actress, Sienna Brown, is trying to make a big name for herself in Hollywood, now that she is given that opportunity through her first ever role in the TV show 'Chance' how will she interact with the media? And a better question, how will she interact with her co-star, which she is becoming more attractive to as time moves on, and, it seems that the award winning actor, sees something in her too...
Warning: Hugh Laurie x f!reader. I wrote this in January and posted it on ao3 and Wattpad, I had huge plans for it but gave up because of school. I highly doubt I will continue it so here's the part I did write.
CHAPTER ONE
Eldon: You became aware of a second personality... Jackie Black. Is it possible that this character was there before, When you were younger?
Jaclyn: No. No, she wasn't. She does things that I don't want to do.
Eldon: Such as?
Jaclyn: My husband, Raymond, is a homicide detective. Oakland Police Department. And he's very... He's not... [ Sighs ] I had to get away.
Eldon: Okay.
Jaclyn: And ever since, There’s these... these periods where I can't remember. And after... Raymond's always there. And... And I know that I've been with him. [ Sighs ] Even though I don't want to be.
Eldon: Been with him sexually, You mean.
Jaclyn: Yes. And I never know when it's going to happen. And I don't know How to make it stop.
Eldon: And you think That's when Jackie takes over?
[ Sighs ]
Jaclyn: I hate the name Jackie.
I hate the name Jackie.
Sienna went over the scene in her head for what feels like the hundredth time, well, how couldn’t she? This was her first real acting job; this wasn’t just a hobby to her, and now she finally had the chance to prove it, show it to her friends and family, especially to her family, specifically her parents.
“Sienna! You better not be daydreaming again! You have floors to sweep and customers to serve!” her boss yelled, for what he looks like he’s a really nice man, obviously he has his moments, but that was just being human in her opinion. “Right on it, Mr. Miller!” She yelled back and groaned as she got up from her chair. She fell asleep late last night, but she had really tried to fall asleep early this time. She did everything, took a nice, relaxing shower, did a face mask, and had her favorite tea while watching her comfort TV show, but it didn’t work. She wasn’t going to pretend like she didn’t know why; it was her stupid anxiety. She was nervous about meeting all of the other actors; she knew that was normal, but she still hated it. She was particularly nervous about meeting the guy who played Eldon Chance. She looked at the back of the script to find out who was playing him; his name was Hugh Laurie. She did originally plan to Google him, but she thought that he was a struggling actor like her, and he wouldn't show up. The reason she was nervous to meet him was that his and her characters had a sex scene in episode six; this was her first acting job, and she already had a sex scene! Deep inside, she hoped that the Hugh Laurie guy was attractive, so she could get into the character easier.
She brought out the mop and started to sweep. She first did the sitting area, finishing it right before opening time, so the customers had a clean space to sit and enjoy their breakfast. After doing that, she quickly did the place behind the counter so she wouldn’t annoy her co-workers, which she unfortunately did often for whatever reason. She cannot wait to start shooting and get some money so she can quit this job. After twenty minutes of sweeping, it was her turn to serve the customers. This was her favorite thing about the job: guessing the person’s order. She knew it was wrong to stereotype people and put them in stupid social, labeled boxes, but she also couldn’t help the dopamine rush when she guessed the right order. The first customer was a blonde woman, who looked to be about middle-aged. She had her labradoodle puppy in her arms, a beige scarf, a cream cardigan, and, from what Sienna could see from her perspective, a pair of uggs. ‘Okay, I would say a pumpkin spice latte, but since it still hasn't come out, I have to say a caramel white latte,’ she thought. “Hello, Miss! Good morning, what would you prefer today?” she put on her most friendly and kind smile. “A caramel white latte,” the woman kindly smiled back, and Sienna honestly felt bad in that moment. She wished this kind woman didn't fit her stereotype, but oh well. “Right up!” she smiled and started to work on the coffee, quickly making it since it was basically muscle memory at this point. She finished it and gave it to the woman, the woman paid, and that was it. Alright, next customer. The second one looked to be a finance guy, black hair pulled back neatly, shaved face, dress shirt and tie, but the thing that gave it away was that look in his eyes, like he had his whole life figured out and that he was judging her for working in a café and not investing in crypto. ‘well not all of us want to be rich, Todd, some of us have dreams’ she internally rolled her eyes. ‘Definitely a flat white’ she decided. “Hello! What could I get you today?” she smiled the exact same smile, but she decided not to give him the ‘sir’ title; that bastard didn't deserve it. “A flat white,” the finance bro said ‘not even a thanks’ she thought. She quickly finished his coffee and gave it to him. “That would be 6 dollars,” she said, with that smile again, despite all of her instincts telling her not to. “You know, you have a pretty face, you'd be great in marketing,” the man winked, he was flirting with her! Like she'd ever go out with him! ‘I really gotta start listening to my instincts.’ “That would be 6 dollars, sir.” She repeated, the man paid, gave her another wink and made the ‘calm me’ gesture, she was confused before she realised that he put a note in her tip jar, she sighed and rolled her eyes. She pulled out the paper from the jar and immediately threw it in the trash. Men can be such pigs.
Just as she was about to take a sip of her water, she noticed a man walking up to the counter. He had a black cap on with a black jacket; he looked... Mean, just what she needed after that prick. ‘He’s definitely a latte guy, just look at him!’ She already dreaded the conversation, “Hello, sir, what could I get you?” She did her friendly smile again. “uh a large black Americano with two sugars, please.” He gave her a warm smile Sienna didn’t think he could produce. The man stood to the side patiently waiting for his coffee, looking around the cafe with his eyes. She then noticed a soft look in his eyes, okay... So maybe he isn’t as mean as he looked at first. She could notice the shift in his eyes between when he was looking at her and when he was distracted; he generally seemed like a person who was easily distracted. After quickly finishing making his coffee, she gave it to him, and then he paid. ‘Dang, I was sure he was a latte type of guy. The first one I got wrong today’ she smiled at him and gave him his coffee, “here you are!” she handed it to him, their fingers slightly brushing against each other. “Why, thank you! That was really fast,” he nervously chuckled. She was ashamed to admit that this was the moment she finally realized that he was British. “Say, how long have you been a barista? You are skilled, this coffee is amazing! This is definitely a talent.” He smirked, she slightly blushed, “Well, that’s very kind of you. I’ve actually been working as a barista for only five months, and I’m still looking for my forever job.” She softly smiled, “Really? Do you mind me asking you what that job is?” He leaned his right elbow against the counter. There was a look in his eyes, as if he were genuinely interested in her, her life story, dreams, and ambitions. She could look into those eyes forever. “Uh, acting. Yes, yes, I know, the riskiest job on earth, let’s pray for my future husband.” She nervously said, “Well, it is stupid for you to criticize that career while I’m right in front of you.” He unknowingly copied the chuckle that just left her lips mere seconds ago. She nervously chuckled, “You’re an actor...?” She lifted her right eyebrow, concentrating on his face again, trying to figure out who he was, but she just couldn't. He suddenly blushed a deep red. “Oh, now I just sound like I have a huge ego. I'm so sorry. I was uh, in a popular TV show, it ended five years ago.” he rubbed the back of his neck. She nodded, “Right, that's probably why I haven't seen you, I am not really a TV type of person, more of a movie gal.” She chuckled again and fidgeted with her hands. The feeling of being uncultured hit her right in the chest. “Ah, it doesn't matter, it's not like we'll ever see each other again otherwise,” he waved his hand. “Hope you have a good day, again, amazing coffee,” he said and walked towards the door. “Bye!” She yelled back. Deep inside, she wished that he would stay longer, then maybe she would've asked him if he was married, and if for some ungodly reason he wasn't, ‘no way, no way a man that hot is single.’ She would've asked him for his number; she needed to be braver when it came to attractive men if she actually wanted to get with one. After her shift, she rushed home to get ready for her rehearsal.
As soon as she stepped foot in her apartment, she threw off her shoes and ran towards her shower to take a quick shower. As soon as she was done, she only had time for her body yoghurt, which she rubbed onto her skin. Next, she brushed her teeth for the second time that day and rushed out of the bathroom to her bedroom, her closet specifically. She was looking for something comfortable but classy enough. She in the end decided on a pair of denim jeans, a white shirt she’s using as an undershirt, and an olive green jumper. Sienna grabbed her backpack from her desk chair and put the script inside for some last minute revision with her water bottle, her wallet, and the book she was currently reading: Endless Night, by Agatha Christie. She put on her Converse and walked out the door, making sure she locked it. Looking at the time, she realized she didn’t have time for the bus, and she obviously didn’t have money for a taxi. She looked to her right and decided on her mode of transport for the day.
After twenty minutes of tiring cycling and thirty kilometers, she arrived just in time. Wiping the sweat off her forehead, she locked her bicycle and adjusted her backpack. She looked at the endless number of signs, looking for ‘Studio Eleven’. After she found it, she speed walked towards it, peeking her head inside before confidently pushing her body inside, or at least, she tried to seem confident. Suddenly, she noticed all of the studio lights shining too brightly, the conversations between the crew grew too loud, her footsteps too uncertain, and her heartbeat too fast. Her eyes darted towards the nearest door, the anxiety from the past few days had built uo and she felt like she was going to burst. Before the smiling woman got her chance to introduce herself, Sienna rushed out of the exit door, the blood rushing to her ears, she could hear a faint humming sound, and her heartbeat. She sighed the moment she got out, the wind blowing in her face, she could feel the blood slowly reaching her hands and feet, warming them even when the outside was cold. “First acting job?” She heard a British voice asking her, an oddly familiar one too. “Yeah, how do you know-?” She slowly opened her eyes as she looked to her right, intrested into figuring out who the oddly familiar and soft voice belonged to, only to find... ‘The large Americano with two sugars guy?!’ Smoking, still looking extremely mysterious. The man noticed that something got her attention before she could properly finish her sentence, and he looked at her to figure out the reason. Then his eyes widened too, recognising her face. She slightly blushed at the fact because someone as hot as him remembered a barista who made their morning coffee?? She could definitely see a woman doing so, but a man? No way. That’s some fantasy-type of stuff where the prince charming starts falling in love with the common servant. “You’re the Americano guy!” She unconsciously pointed her finger at him. He chuckled, his voice attractively rough. “Well, it’s nice to know that I get remembered for my coffee order, uncultered girl.” He smirked, taking a drag of his cigarette. She chuckled, “I guess you already know the answer to your question, huh?” She nervously lifted her eyebrow, he chuckled, “Don’t worry, despite what it seems, it does get easier, trust me, you should have seen me on my first acting job.” He rubbed the back of his neck with one hand while the other one put out his cigarette. “We should probably go inside, huh? From what I can hear from here, they’re about to start. Wait, who are you playing again?” He asked, “Jaclyn Blackstone.” She said, his eyebrows raised in surprise. “Really? So that means we're doing this scene together, let’s go.” He gave her a warm smile. “Don’t worry, I won’t bite, yet.” He playfully winked, and she slightly blushed.
“AND ACTION!”
Eldon opens his door. “Mrs. Blackstone, I’m Eldon Chance.” She gets up to go inside his office. The door closes, and it cuts to Eldon pouring a glass of water, giving it to her. “Thank you," Eldon says, sitting down. "You were saying? He picks up his black pen. "Oh, U.C. San Diego, applied mathematics," he wrote that down. "Parents living?" He asked. "No.” He briefly looks up at her, "I'm sorry." "And you are married", she looks down, thinking, "Yes, Reymond. Three years." She took a deep breath, "But we're separated right now" She shook her head "I'm sorry I don't mean to be rude,” he looks up at her from his file "I went over this at Stanford alrea Why did they send me here?" he glanced hack per at the file then at her, dropping his pen. “Doctors at Stanford were unable to locate an organic basis for your symptoms,” he leaned back in his chair. She looked to her lower right. "So they asked me to review their findings, and if I agree, which I do, by the way," he gestured with his hand, palm up, the other hand still holding the pen. She swayed her head a bit, "So they think I’m crazy, then.” She puffed her lips slightly. "No," he said with certainty, not looking at her. "No, this is not saying your symptoms aren't real, but you're here so that you and I can decide,” he looked down to his left, then his right, seemingly looking for something. He stretched his hand. “How best to move forward." He finished his sentence, looking up at her. "With you?" She blinked a couple of times, he couldn't tell if she suprised of amused. "No, I'm not a treating therapist." He said, "I'm a consulting neurophychiatrist." His eyes slightly widened. "Patients come to me, and I assess them, then I refer them forward to the appropriate next step: treatment plans, specialists. Does that clear things up a little?" he slightly bounced the tip of his pen. “Yes.” She confirmed. He took off his glasses. "Okay, well, there are a couple of things I'd like to know more about." He scratched his eyebrow while looking down to read from her file, "It says here you separated from your husband after he struck you in the face with a jack handle. In the wake of which, you were unconscious for a period of at least 30 minutes, then shortly thereafter, you became aware of a second personality... Jackie Black.”
.........
“And scene!”
The director yelled, she felt her shoulders slump, then she looked up at Hugh. “Do you think this was the one?” Hugh chuckled, his British accent already creeping back in, “I sure hope so, I don’t feel like doing that again.” He smiled at Sienna, taking her in from head to toe. “Say, Sienna, if you’re going to be acting like this, you ought to take the lead, you were amazing!” She chuckled, a bit out of embarrassment, a bit out of shock. “Are you for real?! You switch your acting like they’re hats!” He blushed, like, actually blushed, and he looked... So attractive and adorable at the same time. She definitely liked this side of him, and she’d gladly see more... She wanted to know on what side of the bed he preferred to sleep in, she wanted to know what was his favorite song, movie, and food, she wanted to remember his face and hands so well that if someone broke in during the middle of the night, she’d be able to write a short story about them. No, she needed to know. “I have been thinking, how about you and I go get a coffee or something? Get to know each other a bit, since, you know, we will be stuck with seeing each other every day for the next year.” He smiled softly. She was absolutely shocked, ‘He’s asking me out on a date?!’ “Uhm, yeah sure.” She slightly smiled back; then she decided, why not mess with him? “If it’s a date you’re suggesting.” She slightly smirked, watching his face go into full panic mode. She managed to catch him off guard. “oh I didn’t mean-” She caught him off. “Then we should probably go to a restaurant, I know a nice restaurant which isn’t too far from the set.” She smiled, finishing her sentence. His smile slightly returned. “Yeah, absolutely, I think I know which one you mean. Does seven on Friday work for you?” He slightly raised his eyebrow, and she nodded, “Yeah, it works for me.” He smiled again, “Great.”
It was late by now, and everyone finished with their work for the day. She sighed as she put on her hoodie and went outside. There she found Hugh again, smoking his cigarette. She smiled and slightly shook her head. Soon after that smile turned into a frown as she looked down at her bike, “no, noo...” She quietly said to herself, Hugh noticed her face, putting out his cigaretteand walking over to her. “What’s wrong?” He asked, his voice soft and caring. “Someone slashed my bike tire.” She let out a breath, and he analyzed her body language. “I could give you a ride?” He offered. Her eyes widened, once her brain caught up to the information “no no, that's okay!” She smiled. “I can just call a taxi!” she said, he shook his head. “I’m absolutely not letting you pay for a taxi when I can just drive you. Come on.” He motioned with his hand, holding his cars keys. She reluctantly nodded and followed him.
After a few minutes of awkward silence they got to her apartment building. “Thank you, i owe you one.” She smiled at him. “Ah it's fine, your company is enough.” She slightly blushed and got out his car, waving to him as he drove away.
She groaned from tiredness as she stepped foot inside of her home, taking off her shoes and backpack, jumping onto her bed. Her mind started to wander to him. His voice, hand, his smile, she couldn't help but feel attracted to him, if not already having a crush on him already. After another ten minutes of thinking about him, even imaging a life with him despite her concessnes knowing better, she decided to do something about it. She got up and grabbed her laptop, opening it and putting into her password, as she got in she quickly pressed onto the chrome icon, watching the ‘Google’ logo pop up, she pressed on the search bar and typed-
‘Hugh Laurie’
