we’re sitting too close on the bench by the park
and a man walks past and shouts out loud
with yellow teeth and pin prick eyes
“leave space for Jesus.”
what he doesn’t know is that
jesus is filling the spaces in my mouth
as your hands caress my sides
jesus is echoing in the heartbeat under my ribs
where your lips brush my skin
i want to shout back
for him to bring jesus in
but god is doing something with his hand in my hair
and all i can do is cry out your name in prayer
