I think of Nine having a moment of vulnerability, asking Chaos Sonic and Alpha Grim Sonic to just hold him. That's it

I think again about Nine thinking wistfully and bittersweetly about Sonic. Wondering what he's up to now

Every time "Grim Loneliness" matched up with canon!

Or, to elaborate a bit further, me going piece by piece through my Sonic Prime fanfic to point out things that ended up being surprisingly similar to Season 3 Episode 1 of Sonic Prime when the episodes dropped

And with that out of the way, let's get started.

And we are going to start at the very start. Namely, the title!

As mentioned earlier, I named this fic "Grim Loneliness".

The title of Episode 1 of Season 3? Grim Tidings.

I know this is a small thing, but you cannot imagine how it felt to watch the first episode and learn that you'd gone with the same naming scheme as the official episode ended up.

Next, the focus at the beginning. While I started writing this fic partway through Nine and Sonic's conversation during the Season 2 finale, the primary focus presented the events from Nine's point of view, following him out of Ghost Hill and into The Grim.

And quite literally once the recap is over "The only one I can trust is myself" leads right into Nine entering his lab in the Grim.

Just after arriving in his lab in the fic, Nine puts the paradox prism together. As he does so, he thinks bitterly back to Sonic. A line I specifically want to point to is Nine's final thought in the following screenshot.

In S3 E1, upon arriving in his lab, Nine thinks about Sonic before then immediately setting off to rebuild the prism.

"Sonic. The fool. This could've been everything he ever wanted."

The green shard is the second shard Nine moves into place (not counting The Grim's shard, which was already in his lab)

The yellow shard from Ghost Hill is the last shard Nine moves into place

"The last one."

ㅤ

The first thing Nine does with the prism after putting it together is create his crystal fortress/citadel (the reasons why make sense, but of course he does this first instead of molding the Grim into his perfect home)
