“And what do you want?”
The world is veilled, but the bitterness in the elf’s eyes cuts through his creation. What grief those eyes have seen, he wonders. He has walked the streets of Denerim, slept in the alleys of its Alienage, where sorrow hangs like a pall spread over her streets.
“To an Empress, everything may mean dominion over her lands, no matter how she came about them. To the rest, it may mean food on the table.” Here in Skyhold, the word ‘everything’ carries more weight than in the lowlands. Though the humans who pass through its halls are all too happy to overlook them, the two elves cast shadows taller than their small frames might imply.
“We all want everything, but what is everything to you?”
