Patrick Livesey’s play is fun but under the direction of Richard Carroll is at least 10 minutes too long, and even Joel Creasey was a bit subdued. However the evening was enjoyable! #ChapelOffChapel ‘Night Mother. Marsha Norman won many prizes for this play in 1982, for its treatment of suicide and, it now seems clear, depression. But now it seems like a play of ideas, and not very fresh ideas either: the actors act, the set sits, the lighting’s perfunctory, the tone one-note. I don’t thing all the fault is the production’s either, but I don’t recommend this for seekers of deep, thoughtful ideas.
