On again. Off again. On again. Repeat. It was the same old shit, yet Riggs could never stay away and apparently neither could she. For better or worse, they were simply fucked. “I thought you’d be off by now,” he exhaled, a cold pepsi and a pack of peanuts in hand. He could have gone to another gas station, but he’d picked the one Greer worked out in hopes of seeing her. Yet, seeing her fueled a little annoyance and somehow filled a void at the same time. “You guys are out of honey roasted,” he added, peering down at the salted peanuts he’d plucked from the shelf. “Overheard some guys at the pump talking about how hot the clerk was. Figured I’d check it out for myself.” He couldn’t even remember why they’d broken up this time, but he knew that he missed her and the thought of anyone else standing a chance fueled a little anger within him. “Don’t tell me they made you pull another double.” He wasn’t supposed to care, yet there was a part of him that always would. “Have you eaten anything?” And there it went. The anger, the annoyance, the everything in between; all gone in exchange for concern and worry.
