gathering a team i'm calling sha-ming variants bc i have been close to mistaking them for him before
my hc is that sha-ming can speak cantonese and, to a lesser extent, some mandarin, but he's better at listening than he is at speaking lol. i think he used to be able to read and write pretty well, but lost the skills as he got older so he's stuck at an elementary school level.
zhixing, meanwhile, can speak flawless mandarin but she's not good with slang and is very formal so she ends up sounds like someone ran her words through google translate most of the time. her reading and writing is better, but she's never received advanced schooling, so she's at a high school graduate proficiency level.
all this to say is that i think it'd be cute if they talked to each other in mandarin, or he attempted to teach her cantonese...
on our journey with no end and no beginning.
