Character Facts: Djinn, Demon, and Vengeful Ghost Edition

Little character fact things for Demersa, Sluagh Gruama, and Caseal!

Demersa

She considers a lot of deep sea creatures that land dwellers would consider “creepy” (sea cucumbers, crustaceans, etc) to be cute to some degree. Her favorite are karka.

So they never show if djinn have mouths and they probably don’t even need them but if Demersa ever want to look intimidating and horrific her jaw rips apart into this anglerfish like maw. She also has “hair” that looks like jellyfish tendrils.

Default speaking tone/subject is “morbid.”

Her shtick is making “deals” with mortals. She gives something or does something for you and you reciprocate (though always the deal is in her favor) 

Currently sulks in a grotto in LA after the Consortium tried to copy their own Mystic Forge. Like the krait, quaggan, etc she was driven out of her home by the Deep Sea Dragon.

Sluagh Gruama 

They originated in the Ravenheart Gloom, so they pretty much have the tyrian/gw2 equivalent of darkvision.

Their revenant abilities actually come from letting part of themselves take a forefront in control. Sluagh’s not a singular demon but more like several demons in a single body acting by coming to a “consensus” on issues. Yeah kinda think a combo of Mass Effect’s geth but a lot less and each one is more specialized and SU fusions for Sluagh.

Sluagh can sense emotions since it’s technically part of their “diet.” The fact that everything’s more complex and varied in Tyria vs realm of torment is a big reason for their overall personality change. Being in crowded cities makes them understandably nauseous.  

Appearing and disappearing without anyone seeing how they came and went is a reoccurring thing for Sluagh. Which is baffling to those trying to observe considering how huge Sluagh Gruama is.

There’s a soft spot where their horns meets their face plate, and they’ll instinctively try to take the arm off anyone who they don’t trust that tries to touch them there but Sluagh will ruefully admit to like being scratched there.

Caseal

Scrappy Ascalonian orphan that ended up in Vabbi somehow. Went back to try to figure out her heritage right when the Searing happened. Went through Prophecies (totally fought Glint) but skipped out of Factions right near the end of the Shing Jea arc. Went back to Elona, ended up with the Sunspears and met Good Influence Kormir. Eventually Nightfall happened and then Caseal went through EotN and the War in Kryta as to Kormir as Olias was to Grenth just more... intense.... until Joko stabbed her while she was trying to put him down then trapped her soul in the sword. 

In life she could be best described as tall, spindly, gaunt, malnourished with skin like a maggot, but that’s what you get for trying to live on life force and dark magic instead of proper meals. She loved Elona, but Elona’s sun didn’t love her back.

While within the sword she can feed on blood/life force to increase her own power as well as bolster the power of her wielder. She can throw out a bunch of nasty necromancer spells (as well as some monk abilities she picked up on her travels) this way. She does need to keep consuming a base amount to stave off dormancy.

If she’s at enough strength and there’s enough blood and gore around she can manipulate it into temporary construct that she can posses and manipulate as a physical body. This is as pretty looking as it sounds.

Despite all the scheming and sarcasm she’s actually 800% a better person than she was before she met Kormir and tries giving out friendly advice to those she’s fond of. No guarantee that it’s good advice.

Random OC facts: Plantpals edition

sOr: thing’s that have a so/so probability of ever showing up in WRITIN so I’ll just spill a bunch of little character details on the floor like marbles, or something less risky than marbles. Anyways

Professional professions: Delmy’s a mid-ranking warden with the reputation of being intimidating and tendency to work alone. Aisteach was formerly a mender but now a Priory Field Scholar that focuses on Spirits and the Undead (they have actually put out a few papers on the subject.) Taisce is part time information broker part time tomb raider. Dubh wormed their way into becoming a Whispers Slayer. Gharach bounced from job to job, never managing to hold one down but at the time of the Pact Fleet disaster they were in a mercenary group as a scout.

Delmy is physically the strongest in terms of brute strength. Gharach come close but leans on the more agile side, Aisteach has a little “stronger than they look” going on. Taisce and Dubh are as strong as they look- they’re twigs, with Dubh being a lot more twig.

Before becoming a mordrem guard, Gharach had a pretty slight build and was on the shorter side.

Aisteach has this gangling, disproportionate look to them like “arms are longer than they should be” they also look a tad modrem-y.

Speaking of appearances- teeth! I like the idea of sylvari having weird planty teeth. Dubh’s got a mouth full of thorns and Delmy has a couple that just out of her bottom lip (think like and orc.) Gharach has mordrem face going on, just a little pointier. Aisteach’s “teeth” look like someone took a gnarled piece of wood and carved zig-zags in it. Taisce kind of has this fleshy-zipper looking smile and everyone agrees it looks unnerving.

Clothes! Taisce like the wear pretty/sparkly/dressy things while Aisteach has a drab and droopy fashion sense. Dubh has no fashion sense at all and will just throw a sundress over leather pants and clogs one day and then another disaster the next. Delmy wears either full armor or nothing but a pair of shorts. Gharach tried to salvage a pair of pants that fit them after gaining their autonomy back (they don’t really need pants they just wear them out of familiarity) but most important to them was finding a their scarf that they had a huge attachment to.

Only Ais and Delmy really wear planty sylvari clothes with any regularity. 

Delmy actually has sight in both eyes, she just covers on because it’s oversensitive to light- she switches the eyepatch during the night. She uses her own twist on guardian magic to focus in and make up for what she disadvantages she has perceiving depth since… 1 eye at a time

Speaking of magic- Dubhain’s mesmer magic is super focus on the spatial aspects of it, portals and the like though they can pull off a decent invisibility illusion. Aisteach uses their necromancy for purely healing and defensive purposes as well to communicate with the dead.

Gharach had potential to develop some unique magical skill but really only developed their skills to be hard to catch and tend to improvise (Immal has them interested in magic again though.) Taisce is a bit of a wildcard with their engineering and likes things to be spectacular. They’re also quite interested and in the Mists and have an unexpected amount of information about it.

Taisce is from a “doomed timeline” in a sense, or at least a timeline they don’t want to see continued. They hopped over using the Mist Wars as a jumping point.

Aisteach has a connection with Mists as well! As in they’ve had so many disastrous encounters with cursed artifacts they’ve essentially become a weak point between Tyria and the Mists and wow does that tend to attract attention. Halloween is hell time for them.

Gharach and Delmy actually knew eachother in the past and Delmy took on a sort of mentor-like role for Gharach. At this point Gharach is mortified over the prospect of seeing her again because they feel like they let her down.
