Char Dham Yatra Travel Guide — Everything You Need to Know
The Char Dham Yatra is one of the most sacred pilgrimages in India, especially for Hindus. It refers to visiting the four holy shrines located in the majestic Himalayas of Uttarakhand. These shrines hold immense spiritual significance and are believed to wash away sins, opening the path to moksha (salvation).
Yamunotri — Dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, it is the source of the holy Yamuna River. The temple is located at an altitude of about 3,293 meters.
Gangotri — Dedicated to Goddess Ganga, this shrine marks the origin of the Ganges River.
Kedarnath — One of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, it is nestled amid snow-clad peaks.
Badrinath — Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this temple is part of the bigger Chota Char Dham circuit and is the most important of the four

Health Check — The temples are at high altitudes (up to 3,500+ m); consult your doctor if you have heart, asthma, or blood pressure issues.
Pack Warm Clothing — Even in summer, nights are very cold. Carry thermals, woollens, gloves, and rain gear.
Trekking Prep — Yamunotri (6 km) and Kedarnath (16 km) require trekking. Practice walking or hire ponies, palkis, or helicopter services.
Stay Hydrated & Eat Light — Drink water frequently and eat simple vegetarian meals to avoid altitude sickness.
Book Stays in Advance — GMVN guesthouses and lodges get booked quickly during peak season.
Carry Essentials — Medicines, torch, power bank, ID proofs, and cash (ATMs are limited).
