I'm annoyed by headlines/clickbait that are like "this asteroid is worth 1.2 quadrillion dollars!" because that's not how economics and resource extraction work at all.
What they do is they take the current price of a specific mineral (say Platinum) and apply it to the estimated amount of that mineral inside the asteroid.
But prices are determined by supply and demand (among other things). If you introduced an asteroid worth of supply into the market, there's absolutely no chance for demand to catch up to it. The price will fall and your asteroid would be worth a lot less.
And this is of course assuming you can actually extract the minerals to begin with. The value of the minerals in the asteroid subtracted by the cost of extracting them.
And since extracting minerals from asteroids as of right now is impossible, this asteroid is actually worth very little. Its only worth is based on the speculation that it might be able to be mined in the future.
All of this without mentioning the issue of mining rights in space.
i’m probably being annoying so i’ll stop after this but i just. we haven’t been able to pay rent on our own since may. we just barely afforded november but only because ppl were kind enough to help pay my cat’s vet bills. i don’t ever wanna come across as ungrateful or like im blowing off the severity of it. ive lived in poverty all my life and we were finally getting it together. we had a savings acct and retirement fund and money in our account. then we lost everything because of covid. all the money we’d ever saved up. and we’ve been dragging ourselves by our fingernails for over a year now only for our bank acct to be in the negatives 17 months later. it’s not fucking fair and my wife has worked so hard every day and ive been trying so hard to find a way to help. ngl, it’s hard to keep it together rn
it’s such a frustrating thing to try and explain that no, i didn’t intentionally not eat for 21 hours, i just genuinely forgot. like telling ppl that i struggle to remember to eat and don’t realize how much time has passed until i become physically ill doesn’t ever go over well. ppl are never understanding. it’s always “try to eat more” and “you have to eat more than once a day”. i can assure you that i am fully aware of that and try very hard to do so, but i just cannot grasp the passage of time nor the feeling of hunger. i’m not doing it on purpose so it’s not something i can just talk myself out of. it doesn’t work that way for me. i’m not trying to lose weight or change my appearance or any of that. i just simply cannot remember that i’m supposed to eat
I just told off and then unfriended some family member because she claimed the left was lying about the immigrant children.
I then had an aunt comment and say that I need to be respectful of family and differing opinions.
Fun fact: both referred to me by my dead name.
I happily told them that you don’t get to have an opinion about whether it’s okay to throw children into chainlink cages with concrete floors. I also informed them that they don’t get to tell me to be respectful to my “family” when I was abused and traumatized for 19 years by my family and they didn’t even show their faces. I’ve had to choose my family and I will continue to do so.
Professor Xavier's Journal: Seventh Entry (November 14, 1965)
November 14th:
Erik found out. I had planned for this journal to be about our homecoming, but after last hour's events, my mind and desire to write have taken a different turn. And in all honesty, I really am in no mood to go into the detail of how he managed to learn that I was pregnant again and other subjects pertaining to that. Instead, I will tell you the aftermath.
Erik: "You're kidding, Charles."
Me: "No Erik, I don't usually tend to joke about these sort of things."
Erik: "Pregnant? How long have you know? Why didn't you tell me immediately? Is this why you have been sick?"
Me: "I didn't tell you for this exact reason. I really did not wish to be bombarded with questions."
Erik: "Your body can't handle another baby. Hank clearly said you still haven't fully recovered from the twins. It took a huge toll on your body. Dammit, Charles, I thought we were going to lose you after-"
Me: "*telepathy transition* I really don't wish to fight in front of the children, Erik. Especially about this."
Erik: "I almost lost you once, Charles. I will not let that happen again."
Me: "So what are you insinuating, Erik? That I just terminate this pregnancy and completely ignore the fact that you're making out what could be a joyous occasion into one of argument?"
Erik: "I only want what's best for you, Charles. I always have. You know that."
Me: "And I want what is best for our children. I'm not important anymore. They are. I could care less about what happens to me. Everyone dies eventually."
Erik: "Now you're being overdramatic."
Me: "And you just weren't? I'm exhausted, Erik. We've been on a flight for over twenty hours. Please, let's just go to bed and talk about this in the morning."
Erik: "How can I sleep when the man who most matters to me in this world is risking his life over something so...so..."
Me: "I advise you not to finish that statement, Erik. And do try to calm your mind. You're shaking the silverware."
Erik: "Go to bed and rest. I need to go out...clear my thoughts."
And just like that he left. I'm not too sure where he went or when he's coming home, but when he's ready to act mature about this and stop assuming that the worst will happen to me, then maybe we can have this talk like adult men. Sometimes he can be such an overprotective, stubborn brute. But I love him so, so much. I do hope he's okay out there. It's cold. He better have brought his coat because I...
I apologize for this rant. I'm a little unstable at the moment due to my exhaustion and pregnancy hormones. I'm going to go visit with the girls before heading off to bed. Hopefully tomorrow I can present some positive news and Erik will accept this baby as a baby and not some demonic life-sucking parasite that is out to kill me. I'm quite sure I'm not pregnant with a child from Village of the Damned. Anyway, thank you all so much for listening to me blabber on. I really need that tonight. I don't quite have many people to talk to besides the children and even then, it's their problems we discuss not mine. Until tomorrow. -Charles
Memorable Moments (At least two someones' excitement about my arrival back home made this day better):
