#OnThisDay in @chicagocubs history ▸ Charlie Root, best known for giving up Babe Ruth's 'called' home run, becomes the first, and only, pitcher to win 200 games in a Cubs uniform (Mordecai “Three-Finger” Brown is in second place with 188 wins). 

After being summoned in relief from the bullpen, with one out in the first inning, the 42 year-old right-hander, completes the game and knocks an RBI single to help secure the victory, as the Cubs come from behind to beat the @atlantabraves (née Boston) at Braves Field, 6-4.

October 1, 1932

#OTD in @chicagocubs history ▸ The @yankees‘ George Herman “Babe” Ruth hits two home runs in game 3 of the 1932 World Series, leading New York to a 7-5 victory (and to a 4-0 series win). 

The Babe’s second home run, in the 5th inning, is his mythical “called shot”, also called baseball’s greatest home run.  Although many people swear that the Babe called for a home run to center, Charlie Root, the Cubs pitcher that day, commented: “If he had made that gesture, I would have knocked him down with the next pitch.”
