So, I never really understood why Tigerstar targeted half-clan cats during his take over. His end goal was to unite the clans, correct? So wouldn’t upholding skilled, valuable half-clan warriors as proof that the code was flawed and the clans could thrive together be more beneficial and uniting? Admittedly I havent read the first series in many years, so maybe I’m remembering things wrong, but that always seemed counterproductive to me. If I were attempting a forest wide take over, mixed blooded cats would be my first line of reasoning and I’d attempt to win them over to my cause and keep them close, like hey, look at Mistyfoot and Stonefur here, they’re high ranking, highly skilled warriors, but guess what! Theyre half clan! Mixing blood isnt inherently harmful and actually results in some pretty great cats!
Anyways, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this, assuming it doesnt give away too much redux info!
Well, since we’re mostly talking about canon, I think I can answer this safely!
Tigerstar always came across to me as a hateful character - he hates his apprentice for “being weak”, he hates the protagonist for getting in his way, he hates ThunderClan for its collective softness, and he hates half-Clanners for their impurity. From what little of his character we can assess once we remove the cartoon villainy, I’ve never seen him as capable of caring about anyone but himself, seeing everyone else as a weak fool. Even when he tries to train his sons, he seems to care more about them completing his legacy and his mission than the two actually making something of themselves.
That being said, Tigerstar is a fucking idiot and we shouldn’t be looking at his decisions and beliefs with any kind of critical analysis, because the character himself is deep as a drop of water. I’ve said as much as I can about that here, so I won’t go too deep into it, but rest assured that anything legitimately clever like bonding with half-Clanners would sail right over his head. He doesn’t do anything that would actually benefit his plans (murdering or attempting to murder cats doesn’t count when he does it right in front of a witness). This idea would be legitimately smart, but Tigerstar is Tigerstar, and Tigerstar is a moron, so I doubt it would ever occur to him to do so.
