a quick 10 minute drabble for jake because he made the post: “Give me Killian discovering 90s boy bands and spontaneously breaking out into the songs and dances” + bc I’m a sucker for 90s pop.
Hope it fits what you wanted!
When Emma got Killian’s jumbled text-- Swan ur my fire-- she assumed something was wrong.
Although he had grasped the meaning of the iPhone Henry had insisted he get, he didn’t always do so great with the actual mechanics of it. Being a billion years old and only having one hand really handicapped him on the whole texting phenomenon. The only other messages she had from him consisted of a panicked one when he couldn’t find her after a fight and ones Henry had sent when he couldn’t find his own phone.
“I’ve got to go, Dad,” she kissed her father’s cheek, grabbing her coat from the back of her chair. “I think Killian set something on fire again.”
David laughed, leaning back in his chair grinning. “Of course he did.”
Emma bit back a laugh, determined not to mock her boyfriend when he wasn’t here to defend himself. She was trying, in vain, to get her father to stop making so many jokes.
“Tell Mom I said bye.”
“Tell Killian-- I’m not sure, something funny. Think of it and give me credit.” Emma couldn’t help it when the laugh burst out of her with that one, shaking her head and not deeming it with a response.
She was pretty sure she was breaking a few driving laws as she rushed to the apartment. The last time Killian had accidentally set a fire, he’d been attempting to bake her cookies. A sweet gesture, sure, but really, it was embarrassing to have the fire department there. Although he promised not to do it again, Emma figured he’d been trying anyway.
But the hallway didn’t smell like smoke and when she rushed into the living room, he blinked up at her from his spot on the couch. He was still in the anchor pajama pants she’d picked out, his feet clad in thick socks and propped on the coffee table, Henry grinning from his spot on the love seat.
“Emma?” Killian jumped up quickly, his smile widening. “You’re home early.”
Emma looked around, but nothing seemed wrong. No fire, no smoke. “I thought something was on fire.”
Henry’s laughter was sharp and filled the room quickly, his head thrown back as the boisterous laugh wracked his body. Emma was baffled.
Killian bit his bottom lip, his cheeks tinging pink, trying his hardest not to laugh at her. Emma narrowed her eyes. “It’s what your message said.”
“Nope,” Henry tried to hide his laughter, pointing to the TV. “You’re his fire.”
It was then that Emma realized that the Backstreet Boys was playing softly from the TV set, their choreographed dance flickering across the screen.
Killian was grinning, his eyes glued to the screen. His lips were mouthing the lyrics, his head swaying a little. Emma looked at Henry, but her son had no explanation he shrugged and pointedly turned back to his homework.
“You sent me.... lyrics to the Backstreet Boys?”
Killian nodded enthusiastically, pulling her with him until she was sitting on the couch. He pointed his hook towards the screen, laughing when they dipped and slid across the screen, their melodies filling the apartment.
He stood up until he was right next to the TV, grinning. “Watch what I learned today, Swan!”
Henry perked up, jumping up and settling next to Emma. “Mom, you’ve got to see this.”
“Laddie, restart the musical number, please.” Killian gestured to the computer. Henry moved quickly, his shoulders shaking with the effort to hold in his laughs.
As soon as the music video restarted on the screen, Killian’s expression grew somber. Then, as the lyrics and dance began, he followed along, choppily dancing and singing the words.
Emma had been expecting a lot of things when she got that text message from Killian. Her pirate boyfriend discovering 90s boy bands and spontaneously bursting into song and dance was not one of them.
He was panting by the time he was done, one hand on his hip as he grinned at her. “What did you think?”
Emma and Henry exchanged a glance, both of their smiles wide.
“10/10,” Henry gave him a thumbs up.
“It was pretty good,” she agreed and winked, pulling the laptop to her. “But I’ve always been an N’Sync girl, myself.”
Killian cocked his head to the side, his face brightening. “N’Sync?” he rolled the word around in his mouth.
She patted the seat next to her. “Come here. We’re going to really educate you now.”

I watched OUATIW through twice, otherwise I probably wouldn’t have been able to capture Will very well since he’s only had like 5 lines in OUAT (only a slight exaggeration... sad) but I try to avoid being like *cough cough*scarletqueensucks*cough cough* So I just didn’t mention it in my post. ;)

Anna, do not listen to the bullies, too coward to message you off anon. You are none of those things, you’re a wonderful person and don’t deserve any of the hate you’re receiving. Lots of hugs <3
Thank you, Anisa! You are too sweet! I feel better after ranting on the last anon ;) I guess I just needed to get it off my chest.
