I don’t know what to specifically ask but I’d love to hear more about the history of Seventh Sunfall; it’s such an interesting concept! :) —chazzawrites
tysm for the ask, and so sorry for the wait!!
so the delphata began… well. no-one knows exactly when or how. pretty much every expert has a different theory. some think that there was a single unspecified event in the fabric of time that caused the delphata to exist. others think that someone very powerful, perhaps even a god, must have granted these powers. some people, such as azalea, think that it’s simply the power of belief — enough people believe in the wonders that it caused the delphata to exist, and the more they are believed in, the stronger they are (which is why they have gone undetected in recent times).
it’s generally agreed upon that the existence of the delphata were first recorded in delphi. some people believe this is where the name originated, whereas others say they are called the delphata because the oracle of delphi predicted the existence of the delphata, or because the flashback-like dreams they experience is like a reverse prophecy.
the first delphata — or, at least, the first delphata who were aware of their abilities — were granted very high status in government, usually advisers or elected leaders. this continued as a common practise for several centuries, as the delphata were believed to be chosen by the gods, and therefore wiser and more capable that ordinary people. some people still hold this belief, but it’s archaic and often scoffed at.
when a delphos dies, their power — the essence of their wonder of the world — is passed on to a newborn. this isn’t reincarnation, per sé — they aren’t the same person — but often delphata will experience strange dreams or deja vu, kinds of flashbacks to the lives of the previous holders of their power. these often intensify the more they use their power.
