Surface are required to power the world with solar alone...It is no wonder that the fossil industry lobby groups are experiencing complete hysteria when they see this scheme...Virtually every country in the world has enough renewable energy sources to eliminate the need to import fossil fuels...
Last year there was a boom of solar panels in Latvia. In total, 12,300 households have already installed solar panels or microgenerators with a total capacity of more than 80 megawatts (MW). More stat...
"Capacity is still available to us. In rural networks, a lot of solar stations have taken up capacity, while cities and suburban areas have free capacity available. [..] I think the most active households have already done it last year, but this year we are looking forward to continuing to a somewhat smaller extent, but we also see the possibility that a full 80 MW could still come. On the other hand, with stations [..] possibly up to 200 MW of total capacity that could be connected to our network," Kirkovalds said(..)
P.S. The "natural gas war" started by the Russians against Europe actually helps the development of solar and wind energy in Latvia. Solar and wind power is our domestic energy resource, independent of the speculative whims of the Kremlin or OPEC. The Kremlin, driven by its aggressive stupidity, has actually significantly accelerated the decline of the fossil fuel industry. The Baltic region has enough local renewable energy resources to completely eliminate the need for fossil fuel imports for electricity production...
Freja Offshore has applied to Sweden's Ministry of Climate and Business for a permit for a huge floating offshore wind farm.
Sweden’s proposed floating offshore wind farm is called Mareld, and it would be sited off Sweden’s west coast. The massive 2.5 gigawatt (GW) project has the potential to deliver 9-12 TeraWatt hours (TWh). That’s the equivalent of more than half of the electricity consumption of the nearby Västra Götaland region – and the majority of Sweden’s west coast currently imports its electricity.
To put the size of Mareld into perspective, Norway’s 88 MW Hywind Tampen is currently the world’s largest floating offshore wind farm – and offshore wind is such a fledgling industry that Hywind Tampen is operating nearly half (47%) of the world’s floating offshore wind capacity.
It begins - Free electricity across all of Europe every weekend....
P.S. People can enjoy free electricity only in countries with a highly developed renewable energy industry...In any case, the possibility of not paying for electricity consumed during the holidays is a very good thing for households. Similarly, by charging an electric car on the weekend with such free electricity, you can drive to work for "free" all week...
Plywood processing company Troja, which is a related company of Latvijas Finieris company, plans to significantly expand the production capacity of renewable energy by installing more than 400 solar panels with a total capacity of 164 kW at the factory in Riga. The project is co-financed by Development Finance Institution Altum within the framework of the European Union Recovery Fund program by granting a loan with a capital discount of 40 thousand euros(..). The panels installed on the roof of the production facility will produce 139,650 kWh of green energy per year. Source: uzladets.lv
P.S. There are many such projects in Latvia. Although each one of them has a relatively small power, the total amount of electricity produced for self-consumption in this way is large. The need for Latvia to spend large sums of money on fossil fuel imports is rapidly decreasing...
Power generation from wind turbines was the second-largest source of electricity in the United States on March 29, behind only natural gas and surpassing both coal and nuclear power generation for the first time on record
(..) On March 29, wind turbines in the Lower 48 states produced 2,017 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity, EIA’s Hourly Electric Grid Monitor showed. Daily wind-powered electricity had surpassed coal-fired and nuclear electricity generation separately on other days earlier this year but had not surpassed both sources on a single day, the administration noted.
Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Luxembourg, Ireland, Norway and the United Kingdom will meet in Belgium for the North Sea Summit. View on euronews
"By joining hands, we will accelerate the energy transition, strengthen our technological leadership and provide millions of European households and businesses with zero-carbon energy."
Belgium, Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands agreed at last year's North Sea Summit to quadruple their combined electricity production at sea to at least 150 GW by 2050.
This second summit in Ostend, a coastal city in Belgium, will add France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Norway and the United Kingdom to the discussions(..)
P.S. Very good news: North Sea has a huge wind energy resources...!
Europeans will have a very good opportunity to reduce fossil fuel imports and significantly improve the living standards of the continent...It is so stupid to import hugely expensive fossil fuels and feed all kinds of corrupt regimes of odious dictators and religious fanatics when Europe has its own huge renewable energy resources...
