What's your advice to someone who has never had sushi before but wants to try it? Like what to start with since they're beginners and how to eat it and stuff like that. Thanks! c:
I'd start with something simple like a California roll or something cooked if you're hesitant to start with raw fish. If you're looking to be a little more adventurous, I really like salmon - it has a lighter flavor than some other fish, like tuna. As far as other advice, I think it's always good to go with a group of people, especially with people that have eaten sushi before. That way you can try a lot of different things without blowing a ton of cash on something you may not like.
When eating sushi, make sure you don't rub the chopsticks together, it's considered rude. (If you don't know how to use chopsticks, use your fingers!) Also, soy sauce is used as an enhancement to the sushi, don't drown it in the stuff because it loses the crispness of the flavor. Always dip your sushi on the fish side, not the rice. The rice will absorb WAY too much soy sauce. Some people like wasabi, some don't - it's personal preference. If you're feeling up to it, dab a bit on the sushi...a little goes a long way!
If you live somewhere that offers several choices for sushi restaurants, I'd go somewhere where you can watch the sushi chef prepare it in front of you - it's a cool experience - sushi art! They can also suggest things for you to try.
I'm sure I'm forgetting things, but it's 2am where I'm at and I just got off working the craziest double shift. Ha ha. I'm sure my wonderful followers can add some insight! Hope you enjoy your sushi experience. :)
