“Women of the World” Challenge! by @cherries-jubiles

Media lack female representation, and especially women from all around of world. But we can show, that there’s many different females from every country! I’m Australian, but I live in inner-city Sydney, so I don’t have much to do with the outback 😅 But I always admired the super tough women who work in the outback. There’s a big annual agriculture show in Sydney called The Royal Easter Show (well, there was, until recent times) and I’ve been to it almost every year since I was a little kid. There are a lot of country women there (the Country Womens’ Association basically runs the thing) and I’ve always admired how crafty and creative they are (there’s a lot of handicrafts and stuff on display at the Show).

Anyway, I’ve dressed Winter like one of those awesome tough outback women 💗 Though both she and I probably don’t have what it takes to run a farm in the outback lol xD Winter is wearing Folklore hair by @mosneakers and Danka boots by Madlen 😊

I saw this wonderful challenge passing by on my feed, and I immediately wanted to participate in it. Love the idea! So, I bring you all Elisa Gabriëls. She definitely is a representation of Belgium, but even more so of my hometown and surrounding area. 

Elisa is Belgian. She was born here. Her mum and dad both are. Her paternal grandparents are. But her mum’s parents? Not so much. They are Italian, born and raised, and moved to Belgium because Nonno Roberto got an offer to work in the big coalmine in town. The mine shut down years ago, but her grandparents, along with the other thousands of foreign workers, stayed, having built a home here, having become proud Belgians. And Italians. They were both. In the beginning, Italians only interacted with other Italians, Greek people with other Greek, and the ‘native’ Belgians stayed out of all of their businesses. But over the years, that went away, and by the time Elisa’s parents met, families of different ethnicities were joining together everywhere. Creating a whole new generation of Belgians with family trees all over the place.  So Elisa grew up learning to make a mean spaghetti carbonara from her mum, right before screaming her lungs out in support for the Red Devils. She speaks Dutch, Italian, French, German, and English, but still usually struggles to make herself understood.

I myself don’t have any Italian blood, but my mum is German and Dutch, and my dad is Belgian, so I did grow up in a mix of three cultures, and I think it has only positives to it.

Elisa is a very colourful person. Belgium is a very colourful country.  And honestly, that’s one of the things I love the most about it.
