Betula Lenta - Cherry Birch Bark
The Morning After
The morning after the second best night of Fiona’s life, the sun’s shine was dimmer by her own afterglow.
When she’d woken up to an empty bed, she’d felt worried and sad until she saw how high the sun was and knew that she’d simply slept too long. As she lay there, memories of the night before flooded over her.
Her show going well, and the very large tiefling who’d watched. Meeting her after the show, and starting to drink. The amount of cherry wine that they drank, and how pink the other tiefling became earning her the nickname ‘Cherry’ from a very blushing Fiona. Fumbling upstairs, hands on clothes and skin, a brief glimpse of being carried over a threshold and onto a bed.
Then fumbling images, hands on skin and the intrinsic knowledge that Cherry had been on the bottom, but Fiona was the bottom between the two. The pleasure washed over Fiona’s memories and she squirmed in her delight.
Then, a glimpse after the act, of Fiona being so comfortable, she revealed her secret, and Fiona became worried. Worried that Cherry remembered or didn’t remember, how she would react, how Fiona would react.
After a bit of anxiety, the image of Cherry looking up at her with such affection broke her and she collapsed back into the bed and fell back asleep, to dream of the night.
Later, she would find the favor Cherry left behind, but for now, sleep and cuddling Sparky.

To choose the best wood mantels you need to consider the size of your fireplace as well as what kind of wood you want. Fireplace mantels come in a variety of materials, and wood is a common choice. Wood is a flammable material, so consider a darker, heavier wood. Getting the wood treated to make it less flammable is also an option. Most wood fireplaces are relatively cheap compared to other materials, but a custom made wood mantels will cost more.
The first consideration in purchasing a mantel is space. In order to reduce the risk of fire, wood mantels need to have at least six inches (15.24 cm) of clearance between the edges of the mantel and the actual fireplace. Most manufacturers are aware of this, so pre-made wood mantels will probably come with this consideration already built-in. Local building codes may vary, so it’s best to check with the proper authorities to determine what the specifics are for your area.
There are several manufacturers of wood mantels that have pre-made mantels for sale or offer the option of purchasing a custom-made mantel.
Most use woods such as oak, cherry, birch, maple, or pine, and offer the choice of a stained or painted wood mantel. Some stores offer kits that you can build yourself, and they are usually cheaper than completed wood mantels. Custom made mantels are the most expensive option, but you have control over the wood, design and finish.
For those who are more industrious, finding antique wood mantels is a good choice. Many mantels in Victorian, Gothic, or Colonial styles that have been pulled from older buildings can be found in specialty or antique stores. They may come already cleaned and restored, but many times you can find one that needs refinishing and restoring. It can make a great project and allows you to style or paint it as you see fit.
One good way to help choose the best wood mantels is to write down what you want before you go shopping, including the style, size, and finish. Doing this will help you visualize what you want in your fireplace and help make the decision easier once you decide to actually purchase the mantel. You can check magazines and books for different styles to choose from, or browse the Internet. Many manufacturers offer catalogs that they can send you as well.

drinking sweet birch tea this morning... technically it's a decoction, because its been simmered, but its on the light side.. not too concentrated. sweet birch is one of my favorite trees. if i had some growing nearby, i'd ask if it i could tap it this spring and drink its sweet water, maybe even make a bit of syrup.. but i climb the ridge to where it grows up top and harvest enough to stash some away for the season. soon i'll be doing it again... this birch tea is one of my favorites to drink plain (well, i have a lot of favorites...) it's slightly astringent, kinda sweet and just feels good going down. feels like i'm getting a load of nutrients and a good cleaning at the same time. it's also my favorite base for a cleaner. after many experiments, i decided birch was my favorite for shampoo. i make a household spray cleaner with it, too, with a bit of detergent, baking soda and essential oils. i've infused it into witch hazel, making an awesome facial toner, and the infused honey is definitely the best i've ever made. love you birch! ♥ ♥ ♥
