I don’t have much in the way of myths for Alternia, but what I do have is horrorterrors!!! I take a lot of creative liberties with them, tho. After reading TLT, I think they share more series to the resurrection beasts (which, tbh, were probably inspired by horrorterrors). The thought came to me in the middle of writing the second sentence…
Anyway. The long and short is that my idea of a horrorterror is born from a whole lot of death. There’s one trapped in the closed down mine in the mountain range where my troll Lovelace is from. It was created by the mine explosion that set off the perpetual fire that burns down there til this day. (This is obviously inspired by Centralia. Lovelace’s hometown is deeply inspired by Appalachia; my dad’s side is from Appalachia btw!) Lots of lives lost. Extremely violent and sudden. Souls refusing to rest. Horrorterror. Some trolls in the area can catch its whispers. It drives them mad if they don’t have the right amount of gumption.
There’s another horrorterror I have that lives the myriad abandoned tunnels beneath Glossolalia. Many have died in the creation of the city and many continue to die in it! If that slothful thing decided to sneeze, the city is fucking toast. It also whispers to trolls, though not quite as much. It takes a lot to grab this thang’s attention. It may or may not be the reason Ptolem cannot die within the city’s limits and survived exploding.
Another horrorterror I have is kind of piloting my troll Marrow. Its creation was slow and intentionally done by a fringe subjug cult. It was done via ritual sacrifice, then they decided to attach it to a troll. It’s……. Complicated. But who knew one troll could hold so many souls in it! Hardly anyone among the Boys(tm) knows Marrow’s deal. They’re just glad to have been “rescued” from that sect by Ptolem.
