Season four is my comfort season so I re-watch it in full fairly often. (Yes, even still.) I love SO many things about season four, but one thing I adore is that the Chicago winter is so intense and relentlessly cold that it becomes it's own character. If you grew up in a really cold climate, you can recognize the kind of cold that can take your breath away. Nowhere do we see that as plainly as the scene where they go outside after Ian holds the knife to Kenyatta's throat. When they are outside, they are breathing hard and you can just TELL it's cold as fuck. And the dirty grey snow moments along the road, snow piles along the sidewalk, stepping in the snow, all of it is so real. Viscerally real. I missed them shooting so much in Chicago. I know there were reasons, but there's something so special about having Chicago (and Chicago winter!) as a guest star, and that slipped as the show went on. Sigh.
