Most of the babies have already been transferred to the cage in the coop but there’s still a few little ones in the laundry room. I’m just so glad that we definitely got at least one baby from the hen we desperately wanted a kiddo from. That mottled tan one with the dark head is Toast’s child and I’m actually hoping it’s a male. That one in particular has been making weird noises and we think it’s trying to imitate the two turkey chicks that were also in there. <3 <3 <3
So my girls are doing well!
Missy has finally put on her big girl feathers, and she is definitely not an Australorp as labeled. She's looking like a Barred Rock!
Meanwhile Lady is getting so fluffy that we're calling it pretty decided that she's a barred Cochin. I was on the fence before with the Maran possiblity but she's about as close as a chick can get to a circle with those thick feathers!!
Still not sure what Darcy our little brown girl is. I had been wondering if she was an ISA Brown like Jane who has the cutest half white half brown coloring. But looking closer at the two I can see they're built a bit too differently. It's hard to catch in photos since both of them are so skittish, but Darcy doesn't have the thick prominent chest shape that Jane has or the wide fluffy pantaloons. So jury is still out on her breed.
The two Spotted Sussex pullets are doing quite well. Rosa the lighter and spottier of the two is friendly enough to hop in my lap, but doesn't like me to hold her. Sasha is lively as ever and I can't even get close enough to touch her, but since Rosa and Lady will sit with me I think it won't crush me too much to have a few more flighty birds. 😉

MarshMellow, sold as Whitings Green Egger (supposedly, though the colour is wrong...)
Has speckles and squeaks.
I think Mellow is a Blue Egger that got into the wrong bin, the truth will out ....
(Not that it matters!) :D

Owlet, Whiting's Blue Egger
Thumper's Number One, always right behind her.
This is the chick that started it all this year, the sole banty chick that hatched from an egg stashed and brooded by Nevar. (Who then signed off on parenting as she was bored with the project.)

Why her nickname is Racer...
This has been a Very Important Chick Update
