Early Childhood Education- The Development of a Child's Personality
Every child deserves access to quality early childhood education. As soon as a mother conceives her child, she starts knitting her dreams around her child. Her desires and expectations from her child start the moment she sees those two lines on the pregnancy test strip. Not just the mothers but even the fathers are concerned about the development and growth of their children. Parents these days are very particular about the early education of their children. They understand the importance of introducing the early childhood education as the brain of the child is more adaptive in primary years of child’s life.
Children are quick learners. Though sometimes we think that a month-old child is too young to respond to any information passed on to her, but have you ever noticed a crying youngling clams down on hearing a soothing music. Or have you seen a toddler responding to bilingual parents. A child’s brain is like a sponge which can absorb ‘anything and everything’ comes to it. That is why it is often said that a child reflects the habits of their parents or guardians. Since the grasping power of the children is too high that is why it becomes more important to work on the child’s learning from the early years only.
A child develops every single day and therefore the parents or guardian must also show up every single day. There is no perfect age to start learning, infact the day child is born her learning begins. Whether we teach a child or not, their learning has already begun. If we introduce the learning in the strategic and structured way, it can influence the growth and development of the child. Creating a right environment can help the child in boosting their self-esteem, confidence as well as social skills.
Primary Areas of Early Childhood Development Classes Online
Most of the parents understand early education as academic or extra-curriculum activities. But introduction of early education to a child has a broader concept and academics or extracurricular can be the byproduct of the knowledge gained by the child. Though it may not sound convincing at the beginning but if the parents or guardians or teacher will start focusing on the early learning abilities of the child, we could see our children every milestone you have fixed for them.
The learning of a child can be categorized into 4 primary areas according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Health and Human Services, USA:
Movement / physical development
Cognitive skills (learning, thinking, problem-solving)
These four areas are the key concern in the development of any child. For a healthy child there should be a balance between these four areas of the child. We often focus on the academic growth of the child but fail to teach cognitive skills to our children. We want to add more and more vocab to their kitty but fail to build emotional vocabulary of our children. Due to lack of emotional expressions, children often experience difficulty in expressing themselves and grown-ups tag them with ‘weak communication skills.’
Though there is no rule book to raise a child, and everyone has their own unique parenting style but focusing on the different categories of the primary areas of development can help in achieving an emotionally balanced and socially skillful child.
The first step towards development of the child is to talk to your child. Whatever you say to your child, their spongy brain absorbs it and whatever it absorbs it builds a connection in their brain. When we say a word to the child, the word enters the brain of the child through child’s ear and the brain immediately fires a connection for that word. Always choose the right word when you are talking to your child. Focus on the rich talk and interaction and express your feeling with words and gestures. It will help the child in understanding their own emotions and the emotions of others as well. Help the child to calm down in situation of distress instead of yelling or lecturing them, it will help them to control negative emotions when encounter any difficult situation. This will not just help the child in developing social and emotional skills but their cognitive skills as well. It will increase their learning and thinking capacity resulting in better problem solver. A healthy mind leads to a healthy body, and it can enhance the physical development as well of the child.
Post Childhood Development
Though the best time to introduce the primary areas of development to the child is when the child is in their mother’s womb, but it is never too late. Even if you missed out all those early years of your child’s life still this concept can be introduced to a child but of course it requires more than the interactions.
The emotional quotient of the child can anytime be raised to the level a child desire. Learning the concept of emotional intelligence and its practice can create wonders in the life of any child.
