Let's Unravel the Myths - In this video commentary, author Mario Cavolo let's us know once again that the negative narrative of China the big bad communist wolf has little to do with reality in daily life. Its always the same playbook with critics, they take one or two exceptions and try to make you think they represent an entire system, society or country. China's idea of not letting you get on a train or plane if you have committed a crime simply means that you have to consider more than the threat of being thrown in jail or fined if you break the law. The idea that someone who breaks the law, is in contempt of a court order should be thrown in jail makes sense. Well, why not ban them from traveling instead? Even in the United States, many people are ordered by courts not to leave the city, put on various blacklists and have their passports taken away by a court. So what's the big deal here? After all, punishment is punishment and if you know what the punishment is going to be before you break the law, then its your own responsibility, isn't it? Maybe, just maybe China's social credit system is great idea, simply a fresh, new and creative way to to encourage citizens to behave well and give a shit about the people around them and their society in a way far beyond just threatening them with jail time.
