This recipe for Chinese orange chicken has just the right amount of sweet, savory, and sour flavors. Fresh orange juice and zest, soy sauce, and other fragrant ingredients are used to make a tasty orange sauce that coats crispy chicken pieces.
Ingredients: 1 lb chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces. 1/2 cup cornstarch. 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. 3 cloves garlic, minced. 1 tablespoon ginger, minced. 1/2 cup orange juice. 1/4 cup soy sauce. 1/4 cup rice vinegar. 1/4 cup brown sugar. 2 teaspoons orange zest. 1 teaspoon sesame oil. 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional. Green onions, sliced for garnish. Sesame seeds for garnish.
Instructions: Toss the chicken pieces with cornstarch in a bowl until they are well covered. Put vegetable oil in a large skillet and heat it over medium-high heat. It will take about 4 to 5 minutes per side to cook the chicken until it is golden brown and fully cooked. Take the chicken out of the pan and set it aside. Put the garlic and ginger in the same pan and cook for one to two minutes, until the smell is nice. To the pan, add orange juice, soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, orange zest, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes, if you want to use them. Mix everything together well, then bring it to a simmer. Add the cooked chicken back to the pan and mix it around in the sauce. For another two to three minutes, until everything is hot and the sauce has thickened. Before serving, top with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Place hot on top of noodles or rice. Have fun!
