And made as He would eat me up -- as wholly as Dew (chineuvi, 1/1)
summary: Neuvillette is known for his impartiality and his distance from the world around him. He watches over Fontaine, and very little within its borders can surprise him. Perhaps this is why someone crossing the border is able to do what no one else before has, and unravel some of his vaunted self-control.
The seduction of the Iudex by a Harbinger of Snezhnaya. Neither of them are quite ready for the result. rating: E notes: Tonight on cooking for myself ... have a rarepair!

Neuvillette sensed his arrival like a raindrop upon the ocean, a whirlpool somewhere deep underwater, a current, a smell of petrichor on the horizon -- the intensity undulated like an eel and was impossible to qualify with certitude.
He looked out the window, wondered at it, and waited for his sharp-eyed Melusine to report back.
“The Harbinger Tartaglia,” Mulia told him not a day later. “He helped Yanni.”
“Helped her?”
“Some Treasure Hoarders had her locked in a cage,” Mulia explained. “He defeated them, and rescued her. He asked if she needed an escort home. When she said no, he wished her a good day and left.”
Perhaps the Harbinger wanted to find the Melusine home village? That was concerning.
“He didn’t follow her?”
“No. Ilana saw him a little later. He was fishing.”
“Fishing.”
“He caught six big fish, and released five, eating the sixth.”
“After that?”
“He’s heading toward the city. Anything that shows aggression to him, he fights, but he otherwise is acting like he’s just a normal traveller.”
It was redundant to ask when he knew the reputation the Tsaritsa’s vanguard had, but Neuvillette found himself asking all the same.
“Is he a strong fighter?”
“Very,” Mulia said with a nod. “Nothing lasts long against him.”
“I see. Thank you, Mulia.”
“I’ll report back if I learn more,” she said with a little bow. “Have a good day, Monsieur Neuvillette.”
Neuvillette looked back out the window as she left. The sky was overcast, but the rain wouldn’t come until evening. Shouldn’t come. A city at peace … would that be changing? The Tsaritsa was already represented here. Need she more Harbingers on their shores? Especially one with such a colourful reputation. They said where the Tsaritsa’s youngest went, chaos -- and bodies -- sprung up in his wake. To let him into the walls of the city … but justice was justice, and until sentenced, no one could be called guilty for certain.
All Neuvillette could do was watch, and be prepared should anything go wrong.
