Is dkbk/bkdk and tgchk/chktg technically cannon?
This is probably going to be one of my last long posts. Since,as much as I love making posts about dkbk/bkdk and tgchk/chktg,I want to really enjoy these last few chapters because I love this series so much, and I kinda wanna just sit back and enjoy it. So I probably won't make an analysis about any of the chapters until the very end. Unless something SUPER shocking happens. But,besides that,I'll probably not say too much about the chapters until the very end.
This is kinda a 'master post' if you will. I'll just be going over everything and kinda giving my last word on a lot of it until the series is over (unless something shocking happens)
Real quick,I wanted to talk about this one last time.
Horikoshi is doing what he wants. He's ending this series how he wants.
And I know MHA ending in five chapters can be seen as distressing for dkbk/bkdk and tgchk/chktg shippers. Well,in my opinion tgchk/chktg is already cannon, but I'll talk about that one soon. But,does dkbk/bkdk still has some things to tie up for their relationship to be cannon?
And I feel Hori is going to end this the right way for his characters. I make predictions and analyze these characters and his story, but no matter what I say or think,it doesn't make me right or that I know more about Horikoshi's charters than he does, because I DON'T. I'm just saying what I think, because I love his characters and his story, and I love seeing queer coding, even if it's not on purpose.
Queer on purpose,on accident,or baiting?
First of all,the baiting is often an argument from antis when they don't know how to explain an objectively romantic moment. So they can say that Horikoshi is trying to get the bag by using their popularity as a queer couple with the fandom.
This validates their feelings on them being straight and or Horikoshi being an awful writer. Which reminds me to bring up the fact that antis often say that it's only the West that ships queer people, that the West as an issue with being pro LGBTQ while other countries are 'normal' about these things. But the opposite is true when it comes to dkbk/bkdk in the West.
(it's number two in America, which with EraserMic being number one makes sense when it comes with the whole "toxic/abusive" interpretation the antis and a lot of the fandom in the West has)
(Real quick,I hate when people use the term 'queer baiting',especially when they aren't queer themselves. But it also makes it even more difficult for people to queer code and write queer stories, because we have to remember some people are scared of backlash or their boss/company may not allow them to make their characters canonically and outwardly queer. So blame companies. Not the artists/writers)
But obviously,I don't believe this is baiting for that reason for the same reason I feel this isn't on accident.
Horikoshi had to go out of his way to do what he's done with Katsuki and Izuku's relationship. Of course,I understand why people would argue they're platonic, mainly because there's nothing explicitly saying it's romantic. Well, this is true! Though I feel this is extremely hinted, and the relationship that really makes me believe this is obvious and soon will be explicit is tgchk/chktg,because it's,well, explicitly romantic.
Toga is explicitly bisexual. She's explicitly in love with Izuku as well as Ochako. And Ochako explicitly returns her feelings by not rejecting her like Izuku has.
This scene was said in a romantic context, with a romantic setting, with explicit romantic feelings. This scene is romantic. I'm not saying this is a ship moment, because this is a CANNON romance. I can understand when people will say it isn't, shippers and none shippers alike will argue this isn't cannon enough. That because Ochako didn't say; "I love you, too," so it can't be cannon. Right? But,Ochako said something that was in Toga's love language. So in my mind? Tgchk/chktg is cannon. Maybe not in a relationship, but their feelings are 100% are and they parallel dkbk/bkdk heavily.
Does this make dkbk/bkdk cannon as well? Well,I'm going to back track for a moment.
Horikoshi has gone out of his way for Katsuki and Izuku's relationship
As I mentioned; dkbk/bkdk is seen as toxic and abusive, especially in the West, but it's actually a lot less seen like this because of their development throughout the series. But,we're forgetting that obviously Hori has gotten massive backlash for this, and we're forgetting that at the time he was going out of his way even MORE so to show how Izuku and Katsuki's relationship was...unique. Remember this interesting thing Hori said when asked a pretty Kiribaku question?
He decided to speak of Izuku and Katsuki instead, even though dkbk/bkdk was seen as the abusive and toxic relationship, and Kiribaku was seen as the one that made sense. The healthy alternative romantic queer relationship for Katsuki (as for Izuku it was Todoroki,in a queer sense) but, this whole ARC is extremely dkbk/bkdk core,I mean this is what got me shipping it for REAL. Before I just liked their dynamic, but I never thought of it actually being romantic at all in cannon. Then this whole kidnapping arc happened, and this is where Hori decided to say: "hey, they're extremely important to each other," to a point to where it was extremely suspicious.
This scene will never not be crazy to me. Kirishima,an emotionally intelligent character, sees this is effecting Izuku more than him, right after claiming to be Katsuki's best pal. Isn't that a little interesting? How Horikoshi is drawing a line between Izuku's feelings for Katsuki and Katsuki's friends feeling a for him. They're different. Hori very earlier, very deliberately, set Izuku's feelings for Katsuki apart for his feelings for everyone else, and people's feelings for Katsuki. Even Iida points this out as well.
He's basically accusing Izuku for caring for Katsuki a greater deal compared to others, for holding Katsuki above other people. Isn't that strange? How they call out several times that Izuku's feelings for Katsuki are DIFFERENT? Different...how? This happens even more throughout the series, one of the biggest being with Monoma,
Before this he was mocking Izuku's friends/teammates,and Izuku didn't respond,as soon as Monoma brings up Bakugou,Izuku immediately reminds himself Monoma is just trying to get a rise out of him. Isn't it interesting that he only considered this seriously after he brought up Katsuki? Because he knew this would actually upset him. And he doesn't get angry until he mocks Katsuki.
Hori didn't have to do this. But he did. Like all the times Izuku's said; 'Kacchan and the others',or how he's given Izuku moments where he thinks of Katsuki specially ,or the many times people have targeted Katsuki because of Izuku's feelings for him,
and the same for Katsuki,
(This are just a couple examples because there's just WAY too much to put into this post, and I don't wanna stay on this topic forever)
My main point about this is: Horikoshi didn't have to do all of this if it was strictly for baiting or if it was strictly platonic. Just for some very small examples; it's extremely obvious there is more than just a friendship happening here. Another thing that backs up my point about Horikoshi not baiting or doing this on accident is his assistant(s),the very obvious fact he's aware about his queer fan base, and how he's already made queer characters,
What he's doing is very obviously seen as queer, even by the antis. It's not because Horikoshi is baiting,it's not because Horikoshi is clueless, and it's not because Horikoshi wants to make them 'very good friends'. It's kinda too late now, isn't?
As I've pointed out (again very small examples) there is a very fine line between Izuku's feelings for Katsuki and his feelings for his friends, vice versa. I feel I've said this a million times,so I'm not going to beat these to death, because it's just fucking obvious. And I haven't even covered Black Whip yet! The gay quirk! Or Dk vs Kacchan part 2 yet! I WANT to,but I don't feel I need to repeat that too much, only certain aspects of their fight.
Something extremely interesting to me is the fact bones has been pushing dkbk/bkdk,very purposely and obviously changing scenes to giving Katsuki and Izuku's relationship more attention. The weirdest part of this is they FUCKED up a lot of the moments in the last season with trying to push Izuchako so heavily. The thing that interests me the most about these changes and special attention they've been giving to Katsuki and Izuku is the fact the director started these changes after Horikoshi told him the ending.
(Small examples YET again)
And this scene very purposely parallels this scene,
Which again; this is a romantic context and them paralleling this scene when he's thinking of Katsuki getting hurt WHILE USING BLACK WHIP is very telling to what they're trying to say. So I'll cover black whip pretty quickly.
It's a quirk that was triggered by Izuku's feelings for Katsuki. More of so feelings he's seen as negative, since their tied to anger, and possessiveness,so he's very ashamed of this and trying to hide the fact it exits and happens.
He's lying to himself. Then he lies to All Might and Katsuki about it. He wasn't meant to get this quirk when he did,but he tells All Might and Katsuki differently,so they don't question him. Like, when Katsuki asks Izuku about a trigger? He doesn't say anything about Monoma,he just denies there even being one. And obviously Katsuki triggers this over and over again, this once again showcasing the special feelings Izuku had for Katsuki and how Horikoshi deliberately does this as much as he can. He goes out of his way to show this, many, many, many times. The same with Katsuki for Izuku.
And the anime is doing this, and I think it's by Horikoshi's request. Since all of these changes are happening after the director was told the ending by Horikoshi.
So considering all of this, again this is just some of the things about Katsuki and Izuku's relationship,is dkbk/bkdk cannon?
Obviously,if one of them was a girl, this would OBVIOUSLY been universally cannon, but one of them are not. So,in my mind, there's just too much in their relationship that isn't necessary for them to be friends. And the lack of development with Izuchako, and the love confession between tgchk/chktg,izuchako is just not happening. Especially with the new chapter.
They're further apart from each other than ever, and Ochako has stated she's fallen out of love with Izuku. Not her exact wording, but she did say that she fell in love, not that she was currently in love, then she reciprocated Toga's feelings.
So,in a technical sense tgchk/chktg is cannon.
That's very HARD to answer for so many reasons. Since I would argue they're very much not platonic, mainly because of how outwardly Horikoshi has made their feelings for one another. And what kind of shipper would I be if I didn't mention THIS scene.
Katsuki basically just made a love confession, didn't he? BUT,unlike with tgchk/chktg,Izuku doesn't respond to how Katsuki feels and he doesn't say anything to reciprocate this-
So,basically,to kinda review:
Tgchk/chktg is cannon because they reciprocate each others feelings in a romantic context, and dkbk/bkdk parallels them. And dkbk/bkdk have been shown to have very special and deep feelings for one another that they don't seem to have for any of their friends and have been pointed out by other people to be different from their feelings for others, specifically on Izuku's end. And Katsuki's confession was actually a reciprocation of Izuku's feelings. So,they have mutual feelings that go beyond friendship, have been called out for said feelings several times, and even say themselves they feel differently for each other.
I'd say it's pretty fucking cannon.
Of COURSE,I feel it still needs to be said, mainly so Izuku and Katsuki can heal after the war after their feelings for each other being exploited by villains for their feelings for one another. And we can't forget Izuku's issue with his own feelings for Katsuki, since with black whip,Katsuki being his symbol of victory, and villains targeting said symbol because of his feelings. I feel they need to talk this out, then perhaps even have an actual confession scene.
But,I may have my expectations too high. That's part of the reason why I kinda wanna just step back and enjoy it instead of spending the rest of my time theorizing and analyzing it so much. So,unless something SUPER FUCKING crazy happens,I'm not making an analysis until the end of the series.
