The cast of Blades of Light and Shadow and their Perfect Match types

Ever since I did my Blades/Elementalists attunement crossover to mark the anniversary of the Blades series, I’ve known I wanted to do something like this to mark the wide release of book three, and I love me some Perfect Match and the types system, so what better way than by incorporating that into a piece?

So the match types you see here are based on what we’ve seen of these characters up to book two, so any character evolution they may undergo in book three is not accounted for. You might also notice that, when deciding each character’s type, I went off of the core four traits instead of the match name or description, unless I needed a tiebreaker.

Finally, MC’s type is pretty subjective, as I’m sure everyone has a different idea of what their MCs are like, so for the sake of this edit set, Raine’s type is based on which traits she displays most in canon.

So, are you swiping right?

Replaying Perfect Match Book 2 and got a variation to this scene in chapter 4 (MC hadn't romanced Damien in book1) and I'm just 🥺😭🥰

Eros messed his mind up so much, Damien doubts reality 🥺 and it just reminded me of something I have in my drafts for years inspired by this chapter and never finished

I’m sure this has been done before, I just miss old Choices right now.

The only gender/race customizable love interest story I’ll excuse is Perfect Match because Hayden Young is literally an android and the use of the different genders and races of Hayden actually makes sense and is incorporated in the main story in a realistic and interesting way.

All the others, there’s really no reason to have the love interests gender/race customizable. It just makes them feel more like interchangeable parts than actual characters. Plus, they’re almost always white-coded and male-coded, and that really rears its head in the stupidest ways (See Also: F!Sam Dalton repeatedly being called “dad” by the twins).

It shakes me to the core that with full sincerity one of the best plot twists I have ever witnessed comes from a Choices: Stories You Play interactive fiction book.
